Has anyone out there think that an extended warrenty of $40.23/year up to 3 years on a Fridgidaire Dishwasher is worth it? What about $36/year up to 3 years for a Fridgidaire Gas Range? I could see for 5 years, but this seems pricey. Given it's about $60 just for the service technician to show up... I do plan on getting extended warrenties for my Whirlpool Fridge and Duet washer/dryer.

My Experience

When I bought my washer and dryer in 1990 I did not get the extended warranties. My mom and dad both gave me advice not to do this. They had extended warranties on theirs. By the time anything went wrong with the washing machine, they said they could have bought a new machine with what they had paid Sears. Make the extended warranty payment to yourself and you'll have a nestegg for your next machines. IMHO.

Extended warranties

virtually never pay in the long run. Maybe on a laptop computer, but that's about it.

I'm not one to bother with extended warranties, but I did get one for my Frigidaire FL. I figure that between being in a small laundry room and having the dryer stacked on top, if something ever went wrong, it would take waaaaaaay too long for the tech to even get at it.
And labor's more expensive than parts.

veg the cheapskate

If I were to buy an extended warranty, it would be for machines that use water in conjunction with moving mechanics---dishwashers and washers. They tend to break down more.

Having said that, I've never purchased an extended warranty, mostly because I like to buy washers and dishwashers long before my current ones wear out.

Extended Warranties

These are a complete waste of money. Why do you think Sears toments its employees to push these things. I've heard that extended warranties are like 90 percent profit for these guys

I have had extended warranties offered to me when I bought a $30 clock radio--Explained to the salesman that a clock radio is a reliable enough peice of machinery that the warranty isn't needed.I did get the waranties on a projection
tv and a multimedia receiver I bought about three years ago since these were VERY expensive.I haven't renewed them since both items are working flawlessly-and don't anticipate any problems. With Audio video items-usually problems occur early in their lives. Also had the service plans offered on any DVD machine I have purchased-so far three-didn't get the plans with any of them-the warranties for DVD machines is more than the price of the machine.
