Hi Jon, Congratulations on the 620! It's a fun machine to play with. I prefer the timer of the 600 series over the one of the 6000 series. The 600 series is much nicer for the real dial pusher! LOL The timer of the 6000 series is less flexible because it can only start working on the points that are marked. So no possibility to start in the middle of the spin cycle like you can with the 600 series. I had to get used to that with my AEG. BTW, what do you mean by the stain cycle? I only know the water softener start at the beginning of the cycle of my AEG in which the water softener like Calgon is flushed out of the drawer and the washer starts to tumble for five minutes with hardly any water in it. It's the most annoying thing about my AEG! Where are you going to put this machine? Is it back to bedroom laundry corner again? Lots of fun with it! Louis |

Overview of the utility room... note the professional box of Ariel on top of the AEG - it's the same stuff as Ariel Essential with that great grassy scent :-) |

Wonderful Jon, I love the sight of an AEG and a Miele next to eachother! LOL I had a look at an AEG brochure, but there is no information about the availability of a fourth rinse on various models. The 620 btw is not in that brochure, the 610 and the 615 are. The step up spin that you are describing is not the variomatic but the sensortronic system. The variomatic is what it does after the permanent press and delicate cycle (at least my 625 did that). Higher end models also had a variomatic button. It had two functions, skip the rinse hold after the cycles with that and also the possibility of getting a variomatic spin after a cotton wash. Several spins with tumbling in between. The final spin is shorter on the cottons cycle when the variomatic button is used. The lowest model with the variomatic button was the 630. BTW, could you make a picture of the cycle chart? I'm curious about the meaning of the numbers, it is different than my 625. |

Nice one Jon, nothing better than finding your childhood dream, the for me realising how young you are...LOl, I sold these machines when you where a babe in arms etc...they are solid & sturdy machines, built to last and do the job well... Would be interested to hear about the difference between the Miele and AEG on a normal 40d cycle, times variations etc?? Nowthen, I see a space for...HHmmmmm, a matching dryer, keep a lookout everybody...LOl..(hears mums voice shouting in the background) Enjoy, Mike |

Thanks for that. The models with the Variomatic Spin option had a button marked with a "V" overlaid upon the spiral spin symbol, didn't they? |

Hi there Jon Congratulations on the new machine. I love these old machines. I remember my AEG 1200 microprofile (I think that's what it was called) bought in 1996. It was a nice smooth machine and very well built but its water levels were awful, but I think that was just that period for washers in the 1990s. My mother has it now for dog blankets and dusters. Maybe I should try and get it back one day. The only thing I didn't like about it was the small port hole which was pokey for getting large sheets out. The Microprofile machines had a different spin to the normal timer dial machines. The microprofile used to gently ramp up the spin like a Miele on rinse whereas the other machines used to step up. I wish now I had bought the timer dial version as they are far more flexible. Hope you are enjoying it anyway. Rob |

As far as im aware the word Professional from my days in Hotel and Catering simply means a BIG BOX of it - not stronger in cleaning. The above Ariel may be the old (domestic) formulation inside a new design box but its no stronger in cleaning power than whats sold as that partial formula when it was also in old style domestic boxes. There is only 1 formula of any detergent generally whether for domestic or professional use. Like industrial Lenor its not got a stronger scent. Nor does it soften any better. Its simply in a bigger bottle than a supermarket size. The only products I know which definitely are stronger are disinfectants for industrial use. Take toilet cleaner, it has to be stronger to be used in a public toilet to provide effective protection against constant use from public and to initially reduce bacteria on initially cleaning said lav! Sorry my post is a bit woolly, not sat at the pc to do it :( point is there is no such thing as Ariel pro its all about box size. Rob
