Maytag experts,
Why has the thermostatic water mixing valve in the model 142 only giving cold water on the warm setting? The original valve did the same thing after a few years of use. I replaced it with a genuine Maytag replacement part several years ago, but now the same problem. The warm setting is supposed to come out at ~100 degrees and it worked fine for many years. It would start out with hot only, then as the water got over 100 degrees, the cold would open up and the hot would close down to balance. Hot and cold still work fine. Is this fixable? I doubt the part is still available, although I haven't checked. I remember the part was very expensive, seventy-something dollars if memory serves me correctly. Any fixing this?

Did you check the warm water coil on the valve? Perhaps it's gone bad - or a wiring problem...

Greg, definitely not a wiring problem, and I have not checked the warm coil. It is a thermostatic thing.

I have taken the thermostatic valve apart and soaked them in vinegar with some success, I've seen then pretty scaled up.

I can try that this weekend, Greg. I'll keep you posted.

Here is a pic of the 142. There is a bulb behind the timer that lights up when the knob is pulled out, plus a fluorescent light behind the glass panel.

bpetersxx, looks like an earlier version of mine. This might be to the 130 line? The 142 valve looks more modern.

Bobby,
Could the machine be adapted to the more modern non temp measured solenoid valve entry,or would that put in an esthetic category from the garden of good and evil?

Phil,
I could change it to a regular one, but one of the best features of the 142 was the thermostatic valve. It was also a very expensive part, whereas the regular mixing valve was pretty cheap. No one would know the wiser, but I'd really like to have the original style valve. I will be putting the original style timer back in soon, after years of a newer, not original style. I don't even know if you can get a non-thermostatic valve anymore. I'm sure they are NLA.
