First of all I just love the sound the pump makes as it's tub is breaking to Rinse. Did all GEs from 47 - the 50s have that 1140 Spin ? The whole thing is wild to me because I remember all those sounds the older machines made. Haven't heard them for oh....30 to never mind.OK I'm 51 so I haven't heard them since I was around 8-9 years old. What memories. I can vaguely remeber my Grandma's machine having that 1140 Spin. I think her machine was a 54 or 55. Part 2... Does anyone remeber on one the first few episodes of Bewitched that Samantha had a dishwasher with a glass window in the door or was I dreaming that ? She had all Fridgedaire Appliances right ? Thanks Eddie

Eddie, Welcome! You are not so old and here age is a bonus because we remember things others might never have known.

The portable dishwasher with the observation window in the front panel was a Sears Kenmore demo unit made by D&M a.k.a. Design & Manufacturing a company that made the Frigidaire top loading portable dishwashers also. I guess it sat toward the front of theset and somehow looked weird enough to qualify for a witch's kitchen. That was in the apartment with the Maytag Washer and Dryer.

If you will go to the home page and click on Consumer Articles, you will see that the 1948 GE had more features than the 1950 GE,which still gave excellent water extraction, but by 1954 that design was gone. Tom
