Hi Everybody,

I joined several months ago, but only posted once. I'm afraid I didn't properly introduce myself, so today's the day. I really enjoy the site, and I've learned a lot from all of you.

I'm planning to replace my Gibson (Frigidaire) 3.1 FL washer and 5.7 dryer, with the GE badged units from Home Depot. The units are stacked in a tiny closet, and while they've been great for 10 years, both are starting to show their age. I checked today on the HD website to see if there were any deals, and I saw an Amana FL that looks like a Duet or maybe the Samsung sourced units Maytag had a couple of years ago. Does anyone know what it is? The Amana website doesn't show it on their list. The rebadged Neptune is the only FL on Amana's site right now.

Thanks in advance!

Gibson

I'm not 100% sure but I think the Amanas would be based on the Duets. I'd steer clear of anything GE if I were you. I was very anxious to replace my old TL pair after seeing a deal on a Kenmore HE3 FL but I let common sense prevail when the Kenmore didn't exactly thrill me and online reviews weren't all that favorable.

So I walked away from the whole replacement issue until a few weeks later I found a deal on full sized Duets at Lowes that I simply couldn't pass up. I'm very glad I waited. I paid less for the Duet pair and they are larger capacity than the Kenmores I was considering originally.

Don't rush into anything. It would be worth the wait for something besides a GE pair. Lots of positive reports on the Frigidaire Affinities on this site, and they are the most affordable of the large FL's along with having a very attractive and appealing industrial design. Well, GE's may be cheaper but in the long run would be a poor value.

Ralph

It's funny that this thread just appeared here. I was just about to post about the new Amana frontloader. The new washer is a rebadged Maytag/Samsung mah6700 washer (new Amana model# NFW7200TW). This was the smallest of the 3 fullsized washers that they had under the Maytag nameplate. These are the stackable versions. Whirlpool must have had a bunch of these in storage or an old Maytag contract w/ Samsung that didn't run out yet that they didn't use the Duet chassis. I was shocked.

Thanks runematic. I thought it was the Samsung.

And Ralph, I appreciate your comments on the GE vs. Frigidaire, but the GE 3.1 is a rebadged Frigidaire. I'd like the Affinity or the other 3.5 Frigidaire, but my laundry space is a little closet, and anything other than the 3.1 would be too deep for the space.

Yes, those pesky laundry closet issues can make or break your plans for a new FL machine. Sounds like you've done your homework and the GE you've got your eye on will deliver on reliability.
