Here's an over all shot of some of the things put back for me. Of course nobody can save everything. But I thought you might like to see some old goodies.

About a month ago, I was promoted to Manager, Electric Operations for my service center. Although I was extremely happy just being an engineer, I am enjoying this new position, too. The only drawback is the 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Saturday working hours. On the good side though, I only have to work about 4 hours on Sundays and will only be on call or back up every other week. It certainly doesn't leave much time for appliance hunting or restoring.

I hope that you have enjoyed these photos. I didn't shoot any of the Maytags either because last time I did, nobody wanted any of them. There is still one Avocado green 806 set left and a few older dryers.

Tom - there are still quite a few Hamilton dryers for parts for you.

I am still working on both the WI-56 & WI-57 washers in my 'spare' time. I found every part I needed except for a TALL pulsator nut 5433639. Anyone have a used one you could spare or trade?

Rich

The LJD Whirly dryer is 1961/1962. I grew up with an LJA3200 washer, bought in January of 1962.

Rich, glad for your promotion, but it sounds like a lot of hours. Thanks for sharing the pictures and for remembering me and the Hamiltons. Did you get a close look at the turquoise Western Holly with the surround cabinet & vent system to control noxious fumes? Did you happen to notice if that big wide Maytag dryer in the first picture was as well preserved as the chrome around the control panel? It was probably already a Halo of Heat, but it sure looked nice. Thanks again, Tom

Harvest Gold Kenmore Set

Hi,

I know someone who may be interested, if I can convince him to spend the money for shipping on the Gold Kenmores with the control panel covers. If you can get pictures, that may help me convince him. I understand with your new position you are very busy, so no hurry on this end. If you get the pix, I will get them to this guy.

Jimmy speaks very highly of you to me so I look forward to meeting you at a wash-in if I get back East.

Thanks,

Mike

Norge Dryer year...

I would say the dryer is a 1958 model. I have the matching washer, or I should say, what is left of the matching washer.....

I have an ad for this Norge Dryer that dates it as a 1958 mo

appliguy's profile picture
As for the Whirlpool with Modulated Heat...if I am not mistaken that was the Whirlpool version of Kenmore's Soft Heat. The way it worked was when the wet clothes were first put in the dryer, that was a "signal" for the dryer to provide full heat input from the heating unit. As the clothes dryed and the temp inside the dryer rose to the proper level the dryer would then starting slowly reducing the temprature until the clothes were dry and the dryer shut off. Did I get that right guys? PAT COFFEY

I've NEVER seen the inside of a Hamilton washer before I saw this one posted. What year is that Hamilton washer?

Could there be any rollover here?

I think it's neat, too, to see a vintage Hamilton washer right before they were exterminated. Don't mean to step on anybody's toes here, but am I the only one who thinks that agitator looks like one of the most ineffective designs I've ever seen next to the GE straight-8 even.

Well, it does look almost like a handwash agitator.

Post# 248280 , Reply# 46   11/14/2007 at 05:31 (6,007 days old) by tomturbomatic (Beltsville, MD)

If you look carefully at that Hamilton washer, you can see a machine that looks a lot like a Westinghouse top loader, down to the "HEAVY DUTY" emblem on the front. The first Hamilton washers were made by Norge. In the early 50s, the Norge/Hamiltons ranked very high in washing performance with that powerful agitator in a relatively small tub.

Regarding the Hamilton agitator: remember how lame the also gold Kenmore Pentaswirl agitator looked at rest? Quite a different story when working. Ate a big piece of humble pie over that one once.
