When we bought our house we found it came with a GE Kitchen Center from the 50's installed. For those who don't know this was a combination washer/dryer, sink, garbage disposal, range, and dishwasher, all under a one-piece stainless countertop 9 feet long. The washer/dryer was removed long before we got it (too bad) but everything else was there. I got the dishwasher working again and we used it daily until recently when a fork got into the bakelite impeller and broke off a blade. Does anyone have an idea where I might find a new impeller for this unit, or of some way to glue bakelite together that will stand up to hot water?

Sorry to hear what happened...but you visited the right place for help.

My suggestion is try checking the local recyclers first to see if they have a GE dishwasher in the junk pile you can bring home and pull an impeller from. Call any long-existant appliance stores, check estate/garage sales for older GE dishwashers (bakelite impellers). Sooner or later you will hopefully find something.

If you want to try and glue it, 2-part epoxy works well on bakelite. Rememeber that it should be balanced, you may need to put a bit of epoxy on the other side also to balance it.

an impeller seller

100,000 PARTS, a long-standing appliance place, should very well have it. They are in Milwaukee,WI.,and their phone number is (414)-744-3210,they have many hard-to-find items for all kinds of appliances.I know, I've been there alot when living near there.
