Hi all

Back in the 80's I remember seeing in my mother's catalogue and later in Rumblelows electrical store a Kelvinator front loading washing machine. This would have been around 85 I think??

It had exactly the same door as the Hoover A3060 with the square door proud. The dials were more like the Hoovers in the early to mid 70s. The drum was black enamel from what I remember. All in all it looked pretty dated for the time.

Does anyone remember this machine or have any information about it or photos? Any information would be greatly received.

Rob

Hi Rob -

I have a vague recollection of a Kelvinator washer in a catalogue around the mid-late 1980s. As far as I know, they were made by Candy and there was some mention of an oval tub which I understand was a Candy feature. It may well have had a square door but I can't say for sure.

We had a Kelvinator washer from around 1976ish until 1985 with (I think) a wood effect facia and chrome door. On the basis of its reliability we ended up getting Candy replacement but this suffered bearing trouble after 18 months and we couldn't afford the repair. These machines had an interesting old fashioned conditioner compartment with a spring loaded button to drain the water rather than a syphon...sometimes more reliable I reckon. And at least they had one, unlike the Hotpoint 9510 replacement!

Just from the sound of the description, I'm wondering if it was anything to do with Italian Sangiorgio machines - one of our members has pics somewhere...Is it Diomede (vivalalavatrice)? I'd put money on it having been an Italian machine.

Just some thoughts anyway...

Al

Hi Al

Thanks for your comments. This really is a mystery. I'm surprised no one remembers it because I'm sure it used to be in a few catalogues. I think there were 2 models and the doors were almost identical to the A3060.
