Hi All!
I finally got around to putting back an original Mallory timer in my grandmother's 142 from 1960. Years ago, the original timer would not spray rinse and then would stop at the rinse. The contact to open the water valve at the rinse actually broke off, so it was replaced with a timer from an A700. I never liked this timer because it didn't "chunk" as it advanced. Twenty years later, it "chunks" again. I did a small load of whites to test it, and here are some pics I'll share:

The rinse: nice and clear and no softener! Yuck!

The final spin: The original white tub was replaced about twenty years ago with a blue tub, as there was very little porcelain left on it after 7 kids! Sorry, lost this pic!

Hoses on this machine are original! Siphon break added about 20 years ago when we moved the washer from a standpipe to the washtubs:

Hey hey! Bobby - nice to see things work out for the 142, the clunk sound is timeless in an old Maytag. Don't blame ya for chucking that A700 timer.

Hi Ben:
Didn't chuck it, just in case! But those clunks are such a nice sound! I agree with Patrick.

I remember the first time I heard the "chunky" timer sounds - my grandmother's Highlander didn't have it - I thought something was broken!

Great job, Bobby!

That's great Bobby, I don't blame you one bit, it wouldn't be the same without that wonderful "ker-chuck" sound.
