Any woman whose husband coughed up over $1,000 USD in today's money for a washing machine, surely would NOT get up and attend to the thing herself. That is what household help was for! *LOL* It would be poor Beulah summoned to fetch the wet laundry and probably made to rewash it by hand, then hang it out on the line.
