Found this ad in the June, 1940 "The American Home" Magazine.

I wasn't able to get the fine print at the bottom in the ad but it states "*Model U, $99.50 (Same oversized capacity as the deluxe model.)

Yikes-they were playing silly games about capacity even back in 1939! Anyone who has ever seen one of these machines knows that the capacity can hardly be described as "oversized"

She's all dressed up, you'd think she's go out or something instead of sitting nearby just in case this automatic really isn't and might need me to wring the clothes as indeed it may.

"The Successor to the Washing Machine" --too funny!

What could these things hold: 3 or 4 towels, 2 pair of pants--what?

Did this actually have cycles or was it the early model where you have to move a lever for it to drain and turn the water on for it to fill. I remember a video either here or u tube where that was one similar to this in an apartment building still hooked up and functional if i remember correctly.

Any woman whose husband coughed up over $1,000 USD in today's money for a washing machine, surely would NOT get up and attend to the thing herself. That is what household help was for! *LOL*

It would be poor Beulah summoned to fetch the wet laundry and probably made to rewash it by hand, then hang it out on the line.

"Three pins, not two... don't you let my good sheets blow down the yard" *LOL*
