I need a bit of help Please. I have a Danby 5500 Washer and Dryer set. I got them about 4 years ago at a Home Depot close out sale. To get to the point I did a load of whites this evening and the washer got hung up on the start of the ending spin cycle. The machine had stopped but was making a buzzing sound. I turned the timer switch forward a notch and it finished the cycle and stopped.

My question; Is something wrong with the timer? Why did it hang up? I don't know if it is any relation but the on/off button has been sticking lately also.

Any advise on this? I am not in a good position to replace a washer right now (I have been working on restoring a historic house....remember that movie "The Money Pit"). I love my "money pit" house and my washer, any advise is welcome.

Mine will "whine" if the pump is cavitating before the spin. Sometimes it will struggle to balance the load and hesitate to go into spin.

Better description

That sounds like what mine is doing but it will not go into spin mode unless I move the dial forward a notch.

OHM, have you checked to make sure the "no spin" button is not pushed?

No

The no spin button is not engaged. I am afraid this may sound like an expensive repair. I am in hope that I can find some advise here to repair it myself.

Check over on THS (ThatHomeSite), in their laundry forum. IIRC Danby units had a very large following over there.
