Hey Gang ~

This Maytag followed me home over New Years. Problem is the DW won't get used in this house (bought it sight unseen hoping it was a belt drive machine). The dishwasher is in beautiful condition - and the racks are not rusty but have a few pieces that need to be snapped back into place. I have not personally used the unit but the previous owner mentioned that it ran and washed very well. Please shoot me an email if more photos are needed.

$25 bucks and it is yours (as is) - available in Waterloo, IA. I wanted to first offer it to the group but if it doesn't sell here I'll find a home for it locally. It is a WU904 from the late 80's.

No, not belt drive. The WU904 was the final version of this machine. The belt drive models ended somewhere in 1988 - 1989. The WU902 looked the same but was belt drive. The WU900 & WU901 was the same but with the earlier ivory colored buttons.

Belt Drive vs Direct Drive

My parents had a WU302 and I currently have a WU203 which I have restored. Both were/are belt drive. I do love that wash system...it's cleaning ability and the sound it makes while washing. Is there really that much difference in the performance and sound of belt vs direct drive in the WU series? Is it a drastic difference like the Helical vs Orbital transmission in the washing machines when the agitation stroke changed? Thanks for the advice/answers.

I would say the wash action is the same. But, there is a very distictive start-up sound with the belt drive. More noise overall as well. Either one is a great machine that needless to say can't compare to anything new today.
