Does anyone remember the GE Versatronic washer with variable agitation and spin? Most of those I worked on had issues with the motor burning up after 10 years and you would replace the clutch with a single speed clutch. Anyone with one that still works? They were made around 1968-70.

In 1970 Macy's had one(a WWA8800)in Avocado that, along with the TOL Programmed Washer(a WWA9600), both had light blue porcelain tubs. I coveted those machines for a long time. This was, I believe the first year that GE offered "Heavy Duty 18" extra large capacity models.

GE Versatronic

Yes the "8" in the Model Number designated an 18lb washer.

Versatronic Pix

Hi,

Here some pix of my versatronic set. My washer has a one speed clutch, as the versatronic clutch is very difficult to find now. If anyone has a clutch part number, that might assist my search. Enjoy the photos.

Mike

Agitating

Here is the agitating action of the straight vane. I also use a V14 ramp agitator for better full load turn-over.

That is such a stunning set!!!

Question regarding the Jet-Swirl softener dispenser:

From what I gathered when using mine, the washer spin the softener into a reservoir at the base of the dispenser to prevent it from draining onto garments in the wash-tub prior to filling. It looks like the only way it dispenses is by water splashing up into it from the recirculating water in the filter-flo pan. That means there's going to be water (and some softener possibly) left in there until the final spin. Is that just going to be thrown out all over the insides of the wash tub, etc.? I wasn't too satisfied so i took it out and dumped the rest out before the spin.

Just curious about how it SHOULD work. Thanks!

Jon

Thank you Mikke for the close-up pics. I've never seen this set in person and only heard about them on here.
