I just received my new March edition of K+BB.They have an article called "What's Hot in Laundry Systems. It begins with GE's new Profile Smart Dispense front load laundry pair which claims to eliminate guesswork by storing and automatically dispensing detergent and fabric softnerbased on load size, soil level, water hardness and fabric or cycletype. The washer has (H2ITION)technologywhich automatically senses the size of the load and adds the right amount of waterAble to "talk"via CleanSpeakcomunication, the dryer can adjust settings according to the washer load Each features a 4.2 cu.ft.capacity for the washer and a 7.5 cu.ft.capacity for the dryer.they are available in champagne, vermillon red and white.THE DOORS ARE TRIANGULAR!!!Not round or square. The display models are vermillion red and the doors remind me of Pepto Bismol tablets or Vics cough drops!I think the dryer drum is stainless steel. They look really neat!

Sounds like they're a great-looking pair. And the auto-dispensing feature ensures these machines will be sought-after collector's items by future AW.ORG family members.

Wonder if any pics are up at the GE site...

i didn't find these on the GE site, but they sound neat.
I know there's been some waxing and waning of opinion of these.
But what do you folks think of the GE front loaders?

I'd seriously consider them as other options besides the Duet families.
I think they look classier too.

I cant help but wonder if this washer is made by Swan in China. The previous generation of front loaders that came from them was pretty bad and CU said they were Not Recommended. Plus at $1800 bucks for that I would rather spend that on a Miele knowing it was better made. Plus I wouldnt use that dispenser system...I use powder for detergent and not liquid. And some loads you wouldnt want to use softener on and i cant help but think that ther should be something to shut the dispensing system off if one wanted to.
my 3 cents

My Mom had one of thoese for about 7 months and she and I hated it.It just couldnt wash and there is not enough water.I know there water savers but this machine when it would stop and reverse there wouldnt even be water dripping from the baffles.Nothing would come clean even on its longest time.I have seen videos of other machines and they looked fine you could see some water splash around. My Mom bought the machine from Lowes and she had it for 7 months.Dad loaded it in the truck they went back to lowes and they took it back after talking to the Manager and got all there money back also. They Came home with the TOL G.e. Harmony with the see thru lid.She Loves it I love to watch it wash its a water saver but you can fill it up if you want and its neat how it washes and so far has been a great machine.I think that L.g. had a hand in the harmony cause if you look at the L.g. Aussie web site you can see top loaders that our kinda the same but that harmony I haved to admit I Love.I would much rather have me a Frigidaire Jet-Cone-Action washer but my Old Norge is still running and thoese Jetcones are a hard fine.I am not bashing your machine so please take no offence I just hope they have let the machine have more water I stopped the washer during the middle and added two gallons and it washed perfect. Two gallons is nothing I dont think the ablity to add a little water is asking to much. There is one thing I dont like about the Harmony washer it cant wash shoes at all without the agitator the wash plate and Basket cant seem to clean them.

When I was dishwasher shopping last year, I think I saw a GE dishwasher that dispenses detergent the same way.

When I go to KBIS, I am planning on picking at a few brains on thes new models.I think they're real attractive but I too believe a lot of these so called water saving front loaders are just not using enough water to thuroughly wash and rinse the clothes. On my GE(made by Electrolux)and KitchenAid Ensemble models,I readjusted the air pressure valve that increases or decreases the water level by the turn of a screw. My LG Doesn't allow that and I heard the newer Electroluxes don't allow it anymore.he water level in my opinion needs to be either right below or up 1/3 of the door itself. My KA was just above the glass but my GE was half the way up.Both adjustments I made improved the cleaning and rinsing 1000% especialy with bulkier loads like blankets and bedspreads.I dought if the increase was any more than 3 gallons max.

water usage

my complaint all along has been with the FL because they don't use enough water...especially with a smaller than full load. They use more for the prewash, less for the wash, more for the rinses. How hard is that? I work in a hotel that does some laundry and sends some out, and in house uses tide, clorox, downy, etc. but in small doses. there is an automatic dosing system in the speed queen machines that they have. Unfortunately, they have to wash towels and duvet covers, I have suggested that they get an XTRACTOR for the towels, at least, but to no avail.

Send in the Clowns.

I suppose many people use the same detergent for all loads, but I use Cheer For Dark Colors (or Woolite For Dark Colors) for black loads, Ariel powder for some loads, SA8 for highly-stained white loads and Tide ColdWater for loads with items that need a strong detergent, but cool temperatures. And sometimes I like to use Tide HE or Tide with Bleach Alternative. Or Persil. Or Viva. Or UK Persil. Or Ace.

In other words, a high-volume detergent dispenser isn't a big calling card for me.

Everything old is new again!

I recall some machines from the early '60s that had these bulk dispensers. I don't think it turned out to be that much of a selling point. As Frigilux points out, some people like to use different detergents for different loads, or more/less depending on what kind of material they are washing. Also, I recall some horror stories from the early days about people who forgot to turn their automatic bleach dispensers off when they did a color load...

Hey Volsboy, we've got that same Harmony set. Yes, it does great with everything but shoes. Problem is, even on the lowest water level, the shoes float and don't touch the wash plate. I've thought about maybe throwing them in with some towels to see if that will get them to agitate. The other thing I've thought about is trying to use the diag cycles to fill the machine to about half of the normal minimum water level and then washing them that way.

A good friend of mine has the GE set and loved them -- until the washer stopped working halfway thru the cycle and will no longer work.
