Hi All, we really need a quick answer here, as we're currently without a W&D and are about to pull the trigger on a new set.

Are the Kenmore Elite #28042 and Whirlpool #6200 basically the same washer? Sears has the Elite at $800 and the Cabrio at $700, should we spring the extra $100 and get the Elite? I've read lots of horror stories about Whirlpool support, while people seem to have mostly positive things to say about Sears.

Re: What Brand:

Are your current "Out of Commission" Washer & Dryer? Are they both in need of Repair? Are you able to do any Repairs yourself? In the long run, if you were willing to pay some extra for Parts and are able to do the work yourself, you would be best to keep your current Machines.

If you still in need or have to replace them, what are these older Machines, might you want to offer them to someone here in the Appliance Club?

What about an alternative suggestion of a Front-Load Washer & Dryer and do you have room to Stack a Set, to allow you space next to them for a Storage Cart or other needs, like maybe even a new Storage Cabinet?

I'm not very familiar with the Top-Load Disk Operation Washers, but they look nice and some of the Guys that have them, seem to like them.

I would look into the Frigidaire Gallery Model, or the Amana Front-Load Models that just came out, if Money difference is a factor as well. Just my 2-cents worth.

Good Luck, please keep us posted as to what you do decide to do and what you end up with.

Peace, Good Laundry Cleaning in a Frigidaire, Steve

Hi Steve, we've been renting homes for the last several years, and haven't needed our own W&D until now.

Front loaders are nice but we still prefer TL's. Less stooping and vibration/mold/etc issues.

Hi JeffreyG

If you go to Sears.com and Consumer Reports (though for that one you will have to dig) you will see my review for the KenMore Elite 28042. Btw, Absolutely LOVE IT! I actually get excited about doing the laundry again!

We originally got the Maytag Centennial Series and were majorly disappointed. (Those reviews are on Sears too - Maytag MTW5820 I think) I ended up going thru the torture of which model should I choose as I was looking at the Oasis, Bravos, Cabrio trio to replace it. Sears was great with helping me take back my New failed dryer and disappointing washer. FYI, Sears now carries the Consumer Reports #1 Rated Maytag Bravos both with and without agitator and have been offering promo prices on them as well.

Secondly, I wouldn't pay $800 for that machine, Watch for the next sale, they have them nearly every week, You should be able to get that machine for $619.00 or less after Sale Price and Rebates.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the good advice, Brant. We got the Cabrio 6200 washer for $630 and the matching dryer for $585. Delivery will be sometime next week or the following week.
