I acquired a Magic Chef Washer Model W18EN2, I know it came from the original Norge plant in Herrin Il. I was wondering if anyone would know the age of this. Also I am facinated by the Norge agitation and this model has a filter on the agitator and was wondering how similar it is to the vintage Norge units.

Magic Chefs still available in '95

I do not know how old that model is, but I know we looked at a Magic Chef set in the summer of '95. We didn't buy them because the house that we purchased already had a late model GE Filter Flo set.

If memory serves, the control panel said "22 lb capacity" on the MC washer. I think it had a straight vane agitator, a dispenser or filter (can't remember which) that sat on top of the agitator and a plastic tub.

Re: Magic Chef washer

This washer was a Fedders/Norge made machine. I'm guessing aroung Mid 80's as it looks like the Montgomery Wards washer that I had and I bought It in 1985. Thats when they recessed the water fill spout. It should have a 3/4hp. motor and a commerically proven transmission system. This is a work horse of a washer. Should last quite awhile for you and it will get clothes really clean. Happy washing. Danf.

Wow, it appears Norge was right in there with Maytag when it comes to not changing much inside the tub. The agitator looks nearly identical to the '67 Wards Signature my mom had. That MC panel looks like a close match to my mom's current Norge dryer. Can't remember when that machine was purchased but it was sometime between 1985 and 1990, I think. Must admit that while I am not a Norge fan, the dryer hasn't needed one bit of service and still operates fairly quietly.

Amazing wash action

Yes I will comment, it really moves the water, I am planning a video soon. It makes an amazing sound when it pulls the water up into the lint filter. Also when it prepares to spin it makes a loud locking noise. When it is in rinse sometimes the sound is very loud like a buzzing sound. After the final spin it buzzes for a while and finally un locks. Many times I use delicate because regular is so fast.

I've got I'd guess, a mid 80's MC. Looks to be MOL-BOL. It's huge inside, states 20lb capacity, agitator is very simple, no filter, just a white nothing. It really seems to move the water though. Only 2 of the three cycles work, doesn't not seem to be too much difference between the Perm. Press cycle that does work and the Cotton that does not in terms of time. It's a two speed machine, infinite water adjustment. Label indicates it was made in Ohio, if I recall correctly.

I really have no need for it, soon it will go.
