Hi everyone!

Okay, so file this under "simple operations that Nate doesn't know how to do," but ever since I got my 1-18, the one bit of drizzle on my parade has been the fact that the drain hose leaks ever-so-slightly out around the plastic coupler on the back of the machine.

I didn't get the OEM hose for it (for obvious reasons), so I have no idea what kind of hose it came with. It does, however, come with a much smaller coupler than I'm used to, so it seems to take something along the lines of a 1/2 to 5/8-inch internal diameter hose.

I purchased a section of hose that very, very closely fits the diameter of the plastic coupler, and put a ring clamp around the hose, right over the "ridge" that rings the coupler on the machine.

I tightened it pretty well but not too tightly (I don't want to annihilate the coupler), but still and yet, it leaks a little bit (less than my first attempt, which left mini-waterfalls under the machine, but still there, which is annoying).

Is there an art to getting the hose on there correctly? Should the clamp actually be tightened slightly UNDERNEATH the raised ridge on the drain coupler?

This is probably a process of trial-and-error, but I wondered if any of you had some suggestions that might be more idiot-proof before I go and dig out the duct tape.

Thanks in advance to all of you for your help :-)

Hi Nate, are you absolutely sure that the leak is coming from the drain hose at that spot? It could be leaking from the hose on the other side of the coupler, or other spots too. If you are sure that the leak is coming from the outside of the drain coupler at the drain hose, than the clamp probably isn't tight enough.

Are you using a worm drive type clamp? The type with a screw, that you can tighten securely?
I believe the clamp goes on the inside of that ridge, between the washer and the ridge part.Try that, and see if it makes a difference.
Is the hose the size of the raised ridge,or the size of the coupler itself? Should be the size of the coupler itself.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the tips. Robert, I will tighten it a bit more and see what we get, and Kenny, I'll see if moving the clamp below the ridge helps.

The hose is just big enough to fit over the coupler (the previous one fit just over the ridge), so I'm thinking that's why I'm seeing a marked reduction in leakage.

I will pop the top panel and see if there might not be a lose or cracked hose that interfaces with the coupler on the inside of the cabinet. It could be that in all the jiggling around it's come loose.

Thanks very much for your help! :-)

So did you fiind and cure the problem?

Sorry, yes :-) It was a matter of relocating the hose clamp under the ridge on the coupler and tightening away. Both machines are completely leak free now (thank goodness!)
