The newest addition to my Asian Laundry Collection, the CHAIRMAN MAO SPECIAL (aka Haier Genesis) arrived May 6th, approximately 3 weeks ahead of schedule. Regardless of what Consumer Reports says, it is by far, the COOLEST washer I have ever seen. And yes, it DOES use too much water, and is very aggressive as reported in Consumer Reports-All the more reason to get one!

Now where to put it. The laundry room has the HARMONY set, there's one in each bathroom, and there's 4 or 5 more washers in the spare bedroom. YES ROSS, the kitchen will do fine!!!

The CHAIRMAN is quite heavy, and appears to be very well built. The inner plastic lid was a nightmare to put together. I'm not sure why it wasn't assembled at the factory. And no need to disassemble the lid switch, the CHAIRMAN has a good old fashioned KENMORE-style door switch--just push it down with a pen or screwdriver!

The tub is stainless steel with a massive PULSATOR (agitator) at the base. The Pulsator goes one way while the tub with it's fins goes the other direction.

And of course, the Control Panel. I will attempt to post pictures of the CHAIRMAN in action by first of next week. Stay tuned same BAT-CHANNEL, same BAT-TIME.

Cool washer! Can't wait to see some action pics. Is it HE? I don't really know anything about them.

Very nice! What are the blue things with the slats on the side of the tub? Lint filter? Jet sprays? I also hope you'll be able to get some video online. Looks like it operates quite differently than the impeller machines we're used to.

Congratulations John!
Your washer is very beautiful.
Looking forward to see it washing...

frigilux, that's a lint filter and these do need to use HE detergents.I saw them back in Las Vegas in '07 at the KBIS.Their matching dyers are made by Electrolux but have the hamper door. They work exactly like their smaller counterparts.

the exact model I saw on display at our local Big Lots. IIRC price posted was $399 ? Maybe I'll use some of my rebate from Dubya' to get one!

WAY KEWL.

Congrats.

I'm hoping this one doesn't (need to) have a warning about excessively hot water warping the plastique as does the junior version.

The only thing I miss on Aussie washers is the glass lid.

I know this model very well, before it was born...
I´ll try to get some CAD drawings of it´s first beta version.

No Hot water warnings. I have 4 portable HAIERS, 3 with plastic tubs--my water heater is set at 180F, and I've never had a problem. And I've had these machines for quite awhile now. And yes, HE detergent would probably be a good idea as I used the powdered Mexican soap the first wash, and you guessed it. The clothes did come out IMPECCABLY CLEAN, though!

Stainfighter, I heard some of the BIG LOTS did have some machines. Ours here in Phoenix did not. Beware though, because many of the appliances BIG LOTS carries are "REMANUFACTURED", as was the FISHER-PAYKEL machines a few years back, and the ELECTROLUX, EUREKA, and HOOVER VACS they've had here recently. I checked with BIG LOTS.com but couldn't find anything on them. Good-luck. If they have them, and they're NEW, it's a screaming deal. I paid $599 for the CHAIRMAN, and consider that a great deal, since so many of the new machines are $1000 plus. I think I paid about $1100 for my HARMONY washer.

John, where are the videos?

Hi John. Nothing like Mexican detergent. Got two loads going now with Viva detergent.
And what was packed inside your new washer?
I will find out when Roger and I come to see the Genesis.

Congratulation John, that really looks like a neat washer. I love the tub shot!! Would love to see that in operation.

VERY FUNNY, Ross!!! Chairman Mao's great-grandson was packed inside the washer! You know, the guy in the demo video. Why else do you think I ordered the machine? To do laundry? Please be patient guys, I WILL get some pics-just haven't had time to play with the machine. Wednesday, I promise.

I will bring a surprise. It is supposed to be packed inside each Haier machine.
