KitchenAid Question

Ok, I have a question.

A few years ago, I was watching a documentary called "Yesterday's Houses of Tomorrow", and it was absolutely fascinating. It was all about these really interesting homes that were considered futuristic in those days. I even found that it had a corresponding book that I special ordered.

There is a home they profiled that still exists, called the House of Tomorrow, designed by George Keck, part of a series of homes originally in the Century of Progress Internation Exposition in Chicago, 1933. This was a glass walled, 12 sided home that has to be seen to be believed...aluminum fitted balcony, pictures of blimps flying over, etc etc.

The house was profiled in the documentary, and of course it has been updated since the original pictures show in the book. In the book, in a shot of the kitchen, there appears some type of top loading dishwasher. However, what was shown in the documentary was not this, but something very interesting.

The woman who owned the house opened a door and stated that this was one of the very first KitchenAid dishwashers. It looked like the racks were curved if I remember correctly. She said it no longer worked, but it looked very old and in very good condition. This was before I became interested in these large vintage appliances, I would have noted more on it.

So I am curious if anyone else saw this, or if anyone knows what the very first automatic KitchenAid dishwashers were. I have not been able to locate much info on the net on these, as my friends here I am sure would agree!

Hobart Happinin's

The very 1st KitchenAid automatic dishwasher was 1949,a radical departure from all others in that it utilized a revolving wash arm and recirculating pump instead of the usual impeller(high speed motor-driven propeller)that was used. Almost overnight, it was recognized as the "cadillac" of dishwashers for performance, durability and because it was made by Hobart, the acknowleged leader in commercial dishwashers.

Ancient History on KitchenAid

Check out this link with some history on dishwashers. The genesis of the KitchenAid supposedly dates back to 1886 and a lady who invented what was to become the KitchenAid.
