luck

In My area (western South Dakota) I keep seeming to find "finds" in local second hands stores and they are generally cheap and useually came from a farmstead or ranch, tossed into basement, garage or barn and forgotten but not thrown out (just incase)

Another good time for looking is durring our small towns spring clean up times. (the time when people are cleaning out those old barns, basements and garages.)

Good luck to you and welcome to a fun,fun site. Let us know what you find.

hey guy. every once in a while you will run across a cool find at an estate sale. it seemed about once every 6 mos or so i would see a cool find. craigs list or just word of mouth is a good source when it comes to the big items.. but hang in there youll start finding them when you least expect it. what part of town are you in? im in so co. you shold stop by some time and see the toys. also have a tag set that i should get rid of

Hey, I am in the st louis city area and have little luck tracking down the gems as well. Hit estate sales on a regular basis but with little luck. Chris, where do you find most of your jewels? I would be interested in your maytags as well.

Wow - Free is a good price! Grab it or you might regret it!

For other vintage finds, don't dimiss your local charity stores like Goodwill or the Salvation Army, either. I have seen some amazing stuff in stores in NYC, LA, and New Orleans but I had no way of transporting anything.

Look for garage sales or flea market that are organized by local churches or schools, too.

Final tip - don't be shy at garage and yard sales; ask the people holding the sale if they have any old appliances to sell. They may have not wanted to haul them out of a basement or attic to include as part of the sale, so you never know!

Good luck with your hunt for Maytags!

Estate sales are great sometimes, just make sure you get there EARLY! I just missed one of the old Westinghouse dryers that played "How Dry I Am" by a few minutes once. It was pristine and sold for under $100. OUCH!!!
