A bathroom rug totally disintegrated during the wash cycle and now the water will not drain. I am assuming the drainage holes are blocked by the rug pieces. Is this something that can be fixed or do I have to give up the ghost and buy a new machine?

I certainly wouldn't get rid of Maytag's best washer ever made over this minute problem!

There are only a few places where the clogged occurred. The outer tub outlet, drain hose between outer tub outlet and pump, pump, and drain hose between pump and drainpipe (drainpipe may be clogged and NOT the washer). If you have a siphon between the drain hose outlet from the pump and drain hose to the drainpipe, it may be clogged as well.

The best way to go about it without making a watery mess would be backwards. Make sure the drainpipe isn't clogged, then the siphon (if so equipped), drain hose, pump, drain hose between pump and outer tub outlet, and lastly the outer tub outlet.

It won't cost you anything but a little time.

I wouldn't bother with it! Buy a new Maytag and, if you want, crate that nasty old avocado A806 up, ship it to me and I'll take it to the dump for you.
