Hi all and MatchboxPaul in particular

I was looking through the Hoover service instruction manuals and thought I would try A in the drop down. It came up with a lot of old manuals including this one. If you type in A3008 you get the Keymatic.

It looks like the selectomatic had a chrome door.

Enjoy

Hey Rob

Funny you should post that as I myself only came across it the other day.

What a beautiful machine the selectamatic is. I would love to find one.

Hi Guys

It is truly strange that, after years where no one knew what one was, everyone discovers the A3064 Selectamatic at the same time!

Like you guys, I discovered the manual a short while ago - probably a month or so.

It was late at night and just could not believe it when i saw it.

Question though - having looked through the manuals available, the selection of classic machines is quite honestly weird, in the extreme!
Why would hoover, of all the machines they have produced, place on their website instruction manuals for the A3268 black facia Computer Control, the A3008 Keymatic de luxe and the A3064, but only for TWO Logics, one of which was itself a non standard weird machine with a max spin speed of 1000rpm.
These machines are, how shall I put it......niche machines!

and yet they are the machines placed on hoovers website - instead of say the A3110, A3350 etc i.e mass produced machines, which sold en masse.

Anyway - yep I found it too and, the same night/morning, stayed up until one in the morning finally completing my A3060 through A3064 line-up montage.

Enjoy guys and thanks for posting a thread on the A3064 Rob.

Cheers
Paul
p.s does the image below and the instruction manual jog anyones memories at all?
p.p.s the facias of the real machines were more metallic than the image below, but it gives a damn good idea of what a great series of machines they were.

Hey Guys

As this thread has a 3060 in id thought id pipe up about mine.

I have finally got round to properly restoring the A3060.

I have had various new parts for it for a couple of years and decided finally to use them and get it looking good.

I have done the suspension which I had never done before so am very proud of myself!

Also I have put a brand new fascia on (unfortunately didn't have the soap drawer front but had 3 all together and picked the best one). I had a brand new set of the 3 chrome buttons so used those and a new programme knob cover so it now looks all shiny and new.

I have also put a brand new door on the machine. The colour is slightly different as its whiter than the rest of the machine now but I think it looks good.

I have sold my modern front loader which was in the kitchen as it was driving me mad and replaced it with the 3060.
You can see it still looks the part in a modern kitchen!

Closer up pic...looks so shiny now...I am so proud to show it off to anyone that comes in the house...lol

I also had a worktop for it so thought id put it on even though its under the worktop as I like the silver look on the top.

Hi Mr Dyson

It was a Haier 1400 spin in Silver.

As a washing machine it was good and seemed to be quite well built. It was just the usual thing with modern machines...Wash times long and the bloody out of balance spin thing. A few times it just wouldn't spin and end with "Unballanced" showing on the display. I would usually give up and end up putting the clothes into another machine to spin them rather than wait god knows how long for it to decide its balanced enough to spin! Don't know why I got it really. Should have stuck with my vintage machines in the first place!

Mr Dyson forgot to say thanks for the well done. I must admit id been putting it off for so long because I was worried I would bugger it up completly. But I guess we don't learn unless we try these things.

Hi Paul

Thanks for your comments, I thought of you as soon as I saw it! BTW thanks for your post on the Ebay Bendix, unfortunately, I was away at the time and decided against it. Starting to run out of space now.

Mark - Your Hoover 3060 looks fab, I am quite envious. I hope it keeps running for years to come.

Well I'm about to have a wash-in as Al (Selectomatic) is coming down to see me today.

Take care all

Rob

that Hoover looks so at home in your kitchen, even given its vintage it still looks fantastic - that picture convinces me that i don't want a new machine, it looks perfect - well done!!!

Hey Rob...Don't be envious..You have some crackers of machines so im the envious one! Thanks for your comments. I do hope it lasts a long time also.

I forgot to say I also put a new pump on it as it still had the original one! I didn't replace it with a modern italian one though, I had a new old stock proper one with the side fan so used that. I also topped up sealant here and there at the parts which usually are prone to springing a leak over time.

Hey Seamus!

Isn't the microwave just fab! I love my vintage appliances and just couldn't walk past it when I saw it. Had trouble walking though when carrying it to the car. I forgot just how heavy these old ones are..It weighs a ton! Glad to hear the 3308 is still going...fabulous machine..would love one.

Hi Paul!

Thanks. Your right in the fact that even though its vintage it dosen't look out of place in the modern kitchen. I was surprised how well it blends in and does not really stand out screaming.."Im old". Just shows what a fantastic design job Hoover did back in the day.

Hey Mark,

brilliant to see a 70s Hoover auto in regular use! There's something very rewarding about getting regular service from a vintage appliance, so long's you have spare bits and the ability to fix it if it develops a fault!

Now all you have to do is cover those cupboard doors in some nice Fablon or Formica to complete the look! ;-)

Si

Hi Simon.

Thanks

The 3060 won't get used "all the time". The washing is split between the 3060 and 2 other vintage machines and a twin tub. This way all the machines will get some use to keep them going as I don't like to leave a machine sitting doing nothing for long periods of time as it can't be good for them.

The bearings and rear drum seal (of course done at the same time) were replaced about 18 months ago and it hasn't had a lot of use since then so hopefully it will keep going for a long time. Im going to get a motor for it serviced etc so it will have a great motor on it also as the one thats on it works ok but could be better. I still have various "wear and tear" spares for it.

I would so love vintage kitchen cabinets also. My gran had orange kitchen cabinets and they were fab. Was gutted when she moved and went into a modern property. Im getting there with the 70s kitchen in other ways. Got the microwave and washer now plus have all 70s Hornsea pottery eg plates,bowls,jugs..basically everything you could want for a 70s dinner party!(you can see some on the worktop with utensils in). Got some nice 70s Marks ans spencers place mats which were my grans and just recently got a tea tray to match so it looks fab when you serve tea and coffee in the hornsea on it.

I just love the 70s!

Hey mark!
Amazing job on the hoover! I have to say i'm in the same position you were in bought my hotpoint machine in a moment of insanity, it faffs around and pisses me off beyond belief. my better half is away next week so im hoping to go to the local refurb places and see what i can find and do the switcheroo! lol.

I have to say its a really really great feeling when you fix a fault with your machines, i love it, it gives me such gratification to think "I did that" and then it wirrs away quite happy for x amount of time to come!:D

It looks really nice in the kitchen! Its always good to put an old favourite in between a set of units! I'm goin to replace my machine with something not too old as i dont want an old machine to look out of place in our modern new build house and kitchen!

Congrats again!

Darren
