The other day I was stressed to the max and had to do laundry and NOT play and enjoy the chore as extreme leisure the way so many--probably all-- of us do. I can't summon the requisite tone right now to convey the sheer joy and efficiency and power of a Frigidaire when you need to move dirty laundry quickly. And YES, it is tempting to go after these machines, especially since I was offered them, long ago, by an amazing and generous genius, but the Rochesterian, could not determine their working condition, and offered to let me drive over to check, just over an hour away. Kristen, the Rochesterian, is a real sweetheart, but I didn't go. A possibly non-working Frigidaire was beyond my skill last year. To the point, a Unimatic is an indescribably fabulous washing machine, and it is my most sincere hope that anyone who has really wanted one for a long time gets this dream machine, and that people who have one will give someone else a chance to experience the miracle of a Unimatic. Gentlemen, I beseech you, please allow a long-awaiting dreamer to have it. I had no idea the machines were in such beautiful condition. Thank you, see ya all later. When shined up it is stark stunning black on black, me most prized possession ;'D |

What a find - beautiful! A Frigidaire isn't beyond anyone's skill level - the right instructions and the right teacher and you'll earn your credentials in no time at all. We had a Unimatic repair "party" for a '55 WV-65 a few years back - this is part of the group taking a break and the mechanism apart on the table in front of us. That was a fun weekend! From left are; Jimmy, Rich, Don and Robert |

and go get the damned things. Those are a faaaaabulous addition to any collection! BTW, if that Trip-Shaft seal wears-out-------good luck finding one-----what a spiel! It is comical to think that the little dish would catch very much of the oil. |

BTW, if that Trip-Shaft seal wears-out-------good luck finding one You must be confusing that seal with something else Steve, that trip shaft seal is a a 20 cent O-ring available at any hardware store, I replaced all of mine after having a small drip on my WI-57 mechanism. "Soap Dish" lol, I always thought that part was to catch sparks. The parts book lists that as a "Shield, Trip Solenoid". |

Did anyone also happen to mention to the seller that you don't simply "try out" a 55 year old washer of any brand without giving it a going good over first? For one thing, if you run that washer without putting some hot water in the pump first you are most likely going to destroy the pump seal. 55 year old washers do not work without some restoration work. Some might initially, but something is gonna go within the first few full washloads. |

Ok, I emailed them your warning. They'd said that it had been used recently or implied the same. If I get any other information I'll let you know. |

My partner is in Rochester now visiting his elderly mother. I spoke to him about the Frigidaire pair. Unfortunately he can't take the pair home on the plane. My uncle had a service laundromat in the late 60's that had the identical Frigidaire washers. |

I looked in(Atlanta) every kind of hardware store, plumbing supply, etc. and could not find those seals anywhere, so if you come across them please pick up a half-dozen of 'em for me and I'll send you a check. |

You are going to have a fantastic collection in no time. What great machines to start out with and of course your 806 is tops in my book too. So what is YouCrate charging these days with gas prices and all? I'm just curious if they've had to raise their rates. Can't wait to see these once you get them. Patrick |

Congrats, Jed! They look very well cared-for. Hopefully the owner is right and they'll be almost ready-to-use when they arrive. Looking forward to more pics of the pair once they're safe at home. I wasn't paying attention and thought they were in Rochester, MN. I see they're in NY! Are you driving out to get them or having them shipped? |

Your last entry makes me a little nervous. I've been screwed twice by sellers who changed their mind after I drove numerous hours for an appliance. One jacked up the price by $100.00, but since I drove 6 hours, I paid the difference. On the other occasion, I drove 10 hours but the person had a better offer, sold the pair before I arrived and simply said "too bad, so sue me." I hope that this doesn't happen to you. Good luck!

Okay, so Tuthill just came and picked up the washer and dryer. I'm sad to see them go, but he promises he'll take good care of them. Thanks Jed! I look forward to seeing the pics soon. KB |
