What is the consensus here on the Super Surge wash action DWs replacing the Spin tube ? Me thinks they were out from 1964-1979.
Any scans of literature? Thanks

I don't think the Super Surge came out untill the late 60's early 70's.around the same time as the Jet- action 1-18's.I saw my first Jet Action 1-18 at a nationwide membership only store called G.E.M. in December of 1969. It was a Gold Crown model with a window lid in Poppy Red and the store also had a gas Gibson double oven range in Poppy Red.Gibson was the only competitor that was available in Poppy.I was pinching my cheek thinking I was dreaming after seeing the huge perforated tub and an entirely different design in the FRIGIDAIRE products.I just had to see it work!Back then,FRIGIDAIRE had a cassett video player that would show the different appliances in action.I only wish I could find this video player with all the cassetts!

David, I think the Spin Tube dishwasher were around though the 1965 Model year, maybe one more beyond that. After that, 1966 or 1967, was when Frigidaire brought out the new Super Surge machines. If loaded right, they could hold a boat lo0ad of dishes.

Yeah, Bob is right. The top racks were very deep and would hold a lot of tall and bulky stuff.

IMO a garden hose would be an improvement over one of those lame spin-tubes. The Super-Surge's did a good job. I once had a TOL with that little tiny spray arm on the end of the large spary arm. Noisy-----and did a good job. BUT-----it was no KitchenAid.

I thought people liked the Spintubes.

Theoretically, the spin-tube dishwasher design by Frigidaire, should have worked better than it did in reality. But, the rack design was very rigid, no "bed of nails" random loading for this baby. Also, many users didn't fully understand the spin tube concept and often turned dome-shaped objects upside-down on the bottom rack. (few people read user's manuals back then, just like today) The recirculated water was not adequately filtered. A load of dishes with a residue of mashed potatoes would be a disaster. Also, the BOL machines didn't incorporate enough water changes. If the machine would have had a spray arm on the bottom AND the spin tube, it would probably have been a much better performer.

I thought the Spin Tube models as well as the SuperSurge by FRIGIDAIRE were made by Desing Manufaturing (DM)?????? I remember seeing a Youngstown Kitchens 30 inch model with the same wash system.

Chuck, nope, they were both a product of GM design. Think about it, if they had been a D&M product, then the SuperSurge dishwashers would have looked just like every other D&M clone out there, through the 1960s to late 1970s, under the Kenmore, Gaffers & Sattler, Magic Chef, and other similar ilk machines.

then who made the Youngsown Kitchens 30 inch model that looked exactly like a FRIGIDAIRE in a 30 inch casbinet along with some other off brands having that same type of spintube method of washing?

An original...

It's a design original to Mullins Industries. Though the principal was the same, and though Mullins went from a vertically mounted Jet Tower to a horizontally mounted system in the 30" units, it's still their design, even though it certainly danced on the toes of Frigidaire's system...

Wasn't there literature posted on the spintube or the supersurge DWs?
