This is close to my holy grail, the 1963 1050X. One of the longest lived mechanical designs in washer history. Easy to service too.

Secret Agent

Thanks Jimmy,

Having a lousy day at work and your post made me laugh out loud.

BTW, WCM meeting, they sang your song and everyone was in hysterics. Should be a big hit in July.

I agree with your admiration of this one! All of the '58 - '63's were nicely proportioned and showed that styling was important across the board to GE appliances at that time. Here's a pair that I've always thought looked great, just a few years newer than your 'holy grail'. Only thing that muggs-up the appearance of any of these is the awkward-looking bleach dispenser pasted on the front of the cabinet.

Have to admire your taste in GE appliances very much Pulltostart! The ad that you posted for the GE washer and dryer are my all time favorite GE design. Its a shame they didnt do that design for a few more years. I always thought the consoles on the models just following this were a little tinny........such is progress I guess!.............

These consoles were quite zoomy! But there's something to be admired about the clean lines of the '58 and '59 consoles - and the elevated feature is fantastic. I have to wonder how many of the TOL babies they actually sold.

WOW!!! The GE's console is GORGEOUS...I'm surprised this machine isn't everyone's Holy Grail!!! I think it bears a striking resemblance to the 1964-69 Frigidaire console, especially the chrome trim. However, the GE's is just a bit taller and it has that cool Time-Line!

What type of Activator did this machine use, spiral or straight-vane?

Beautiful machines

My aunt in colorado bought this GE machine (pulltostart's pi-c) in 1965 after the pump in the 55 GE (pink) went bad. Her 65 was in coppertone, was a truly beautiful machine in every way, I believe it had a lighted console and a mini-basket. She still had the pink GE dryer a few years more. The pink 55 GE machines that were hers were the first GE's I remember every seeing for the first time when we went to visit in California where they were stationed in 1959. Thought they were frigidaires for the longest until I saw them again in 1964.

Hi,

What a great ad. I would certainly find room for those somehow if they were found!

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Well that "pasted" bleach dispenser held a month's supply of bleach. You pushed a "blob" to measure the amount and diespensed it into the bottom of the tub.
