Good god! That poor squawking wringer sets my teeth on edge. Wonder if he was letting the shirt misfeed on purpose?

IS that the way wringers are susposed to work? Oh my, what a mess. I think if I tried a wringer machine, that's what would happen to me.
I know Maytag made wringers all the way up until 1983 or so. You think that wringers would have been phased out with the advent of automatic washers? Did some people just prefer a wringer type?

I don't know, but he sure sent men back 20 years doing laundry looking at this!

That isn't the way a wringer is supposed to sound or act. This idiot should have blunted the edge of the items before running them through the wringer. That is why he is getting everything wrapped around the roller, and the gears are slipping. This guy needs a laundry lesson IMO. What a fool. Yes, some people actually preferred wringer machines because they felt that automatics were water-wasters. I showed my youngest sister how Grandma's Speed Queen worked and she was impressed how much better it cleaned vs. her 2000 Kenmore. Of course it didn't hurt that I used some vintage Oxydol in the "Queen" as well. The only thing she didn't like was the fact that using a wringer is so much more labor intensive to use.

wringers are still made today....

...in both the gas and electric versions. Here in the Virginias, a wringer is the only washer an Amish person can use, and are in demand by them (the gas version). If you have a mountain cabin, they are also handy if you don't have electricity. They are available, although quite expensive, right in Ohio! Mark
