My aunt bought a Kenmore HE2 set a couple months ago to replace her TOL DD Kenmore set that was about 12 years old. It was a three speed machine and she loved it, but the timer went and my uncle decided to go green... They ended up with the HE2 set and the washer didn't work from the start. It just filled and filled and filled, halfway up the window and then gave an error code. Turns out the hose to the pressure switch was kinked, Sears wouldn't cover it, cost them $70! That pissed them off big time, and then on top of that, the machine has been shredding their laundry! Even using the delicate cycle, brand new underwear comes out with holes, shirts and towels are fraying and jeans are being worn through! Any ideas as to why this is happening? They'd rather not return the set, but if this keeps happening to their laundry they are going to have to try becuase it's getting very expensive to replace the clothes...

Wow that's really weird Jamie... Ironic that they went from a DD to a FL, which is supposed to be way gentler on clothes, and they come out shredded... go figure!

I know how bad Sears service can be but the bottom line is that,if in fact they did buy it brand new with a full warranty, the entire washer is covered,"bumper to bumper",and I would have them get in touch with Sears main customer service number and report it.If their front loader is shredding, terring or fraying their clothes, something is definately mechanicaly wrong with it.I have had enough front loaders in my life to know they're a lot gentler on clothes than any top loading machine.I'd return it for a replacement or full refund and change over to another brand like L.G or Frigidaire.I would surely not buy it from Sears again either. They can be ruthless.I just settled a dispute with them on my account.I had purchased a Kenmore Elite front loading set made by Frigidaire in 2000.I got them with a 3 year service plan and they gave me 12 months 0% on my card.I had 2 accounts and paid at their paybill desk every month with two seperate checks. One for each account. They closed their paybill desk and had cashiers do the paybill procedures.I was sceptical of that from day one but it wasn't untill I needed service that I found out the cashiers were using both checks on one account and not the other.I received no notice,no phone call telling me of any latenesses or delinquincies.I called to get service on my washer(it was now 14 months old and the barings had already taken a crap)only to find out they had discontinued my service plan and my cost for repair was going to exceed $750!!!!!To make a long story short. After years of anger and discust,I just received a letter from their lawyer to let me know they were refunding all I paid them in full for the pair, all the interest and court costs.Evidently, there's a major sute coming up regarding their cunning, coniving eays of harassment their collectors have been practicing.I can either take their offer($4,872) or wait to see if they lose the case against them and get a fraction of the amount awarded.

Sounds like a LEMON!! I'd return it for a refund or at least another washer. Wish them luck for me!

Maybe she should ask if they could exchange the washer maybe she should go with the new whirlpool steam duet? Hope this helps your aunt.

... or maybe frigidaire affinity (it's cheaper)

If a front loader is "shredding" the clothes, there are two possible causes.
1) check the paddles. If they are damaged, it can destroy the cotes.
2) check the drum holes. make a ball with the lint you take from the dryer's filter or use a cotton ball. Let the machine dry completely and rub the cotton or lint ball in all directions, covering the holes area. The lint will help to find the area. A single damaged hole is enough to cause a disaster during the cycle.

I agree with Thomas. Check the "paddles".
There has been talk before of these being "sharp" on edges. Run you hands on each one and see if there are sharp edges.
Whirlpool knows about this.
If so, they might replace them free of charge, and give you some free panties.
