Hey guys
Sorry that I've been absent from the site for awhile but work got the best of me--- very little time for fun and adventure.
Finally got the Lady K set up and running and thought you might like to see pics of the first successful wash!

Great washer---beautiful! That skirtless agitator is wild. All that suds and no suds-lock? Are you sure it's really a Kenmore, LOL?!

Those towels look spanking, sparkling clean. Jane Wyatt would be so proud!!! I've never known a Kenmore that had the detergent dispenser flush during rinse--and I"m not talking about the later triple dispers found on the last of the keyboard LKs either. Our Kenmore 800 did do that nor have I seen any other LK do that with the bleach & fabric softner dispensers located on the front left. Beautiful set and thanks for the pics. How did the dryer do?

BTW Jim, the washer that is 2nd over on the left from the LK, is that some sort of Norge-based product? I don't recognize that panel at all and am fascinated!!

I forget what Sears called it but that was one of if not my absolute favorite oscilating agitator of all the Kenmores! I had changed it onto a Whirlpool large capacity washer I had and what a difference there was between that and the Surgilator! Great find and great job on restoration!

Post# 297071 , Reply# 29   8/16/2008 at 01:40 (5,726 days old) by 70series ( Connecticut.)

Beautiful!

Those pictures were awesome. I was also surprised that this Lady had water flush through the detergent dispenser just as Appnut said. I also did not think a Kenmore model with the seperate fabric softener dispenser would need to do this. You did a fantastic job restoring it.

Have a good one,
James

Why didn't you have spin pictures? That is a very fancy washer if it has detergent, softener, and bleach dispenseres.

Hey guys thank for the great comments.
The Lady K has been my problem child from the getgo. First the timer was broke. I found a new timer, but it also broke after a few loads. Turns out that the plastic in the timer was so old that it became brittle and broke. However, I was able to superglue the broken parts together on both timers. Then the valve leaked. Again I found a new one. Installed it and it leaked. Then had to replace the off balance switch. So I had to take it apart and rebuild it. A few loads again and the motor seized up. Replaced the motor and belt. Hope to never have to replace a Kenmore belt again---- what a job just to replace a friggin belt ! Anyway, so far so good. I just love this machine --- one of my favorites and well worth the trouble.
It does flush out the detergent dispenser during the rinse. I like it---- adds to all the wash drama!
Here's a pic of the back of the timer with all 2000 wires connected to it.

Dryer wasn't too bad. So much lint I don't know how they didn't have a fire. At least 2 inches of a lint carpet covering the whole inside. Had to tear the whole thing apart. Took 2 days to clean. Also had to replace the drum gasket, belt, lights and give it a lube job.
Been working great since.
Here's a pic of the dryer control panel

Yay, i was right, I guessed Norge. Jim, if ya don't wanna post pics here, I'd love to have you email me good close-ups of both the washer & dryer panel sections (such that they're legible) as well as the cycle chart under the lid. That would be greatly appreciated. Bob

Now THAT ....

danemodsandy's profile picture
....Is a WASHING MACHINE.

The '65 Lady K pair is the only set that would tempt me to switch from centre-dial 'Tags or a Maytag 906 pair. I had the Lady K washer back in about 1980, but never did find the dryer. Sold the washer, and have regretted it ever since. Somewhere in the Collections pages is the ultimate - a Lady K pair of this vintage in glorious turquoise. I occasionally run across the pic on my hard drive and begin drooling.

You're a lucky boy!

Just a Thought:

danemodsandy's profile picture
The more I look at this pair of Lady Ks, the more I'm taken back in time. One of my high-school teachers used to sponsor student events that were held at her parents' house; they were quite wealthy people. Their kitchen was outfitted with the latest and greatest Kenmore everything, in coppertone. Off the kitchen, there was a laundry alcove, equipped with this identical pair. The kitchen was papered in a brown/cream/red plaid, even on the ceiling. For the late '60s, it was some punkins.

I had a thought about your timer cam drum, based in experience with broken gears in Volvo speedometers. Plastic parts of this kind can be machined to order; Delrin is the usual plastic of choice for the purpose. It costs a bloody fortune, but it can put an obsolete part back into existence. While you're good for right now, this might be a good thing to remember if you run into repeat trouble (God forbid!) later on. Any good machine shop should be able to advise you on this. However, when I said expensive, I wasn't kidding - it would be in the hundreds for something like that, because it's all precision work, much of it done by hand.

A Lady K matched pair would be worth it, though.

Oh what a beautiful washer.

Just wondering, with all the agitation at the bottom, how would this washer handle a really heavy load like jeans or a comforter?

Man, this washer is one beautiful piece of work. The dryer is sweet too. Its hard to believe that manufacturers use to put so much mechanical detail into their machines.

Those pics were taken when I first got the set. I have since cleaned up the control panels and touched up the black paint. They look much better now.

The wash action on the Lady K with the roto flex agitator is similar to the action of the Maytag Power fin (blue) agitator. I haven't tried a real heavy load--- and don't plan to. I've gone through so much time, money, and effort to restore this set that I want to preserve them as long as possibe. So no heavy "Bob Loads". Just lighter "Jim Loads".

You helped me get that forbidden shot of the Kelvi post-overflow rinse. Thanks for providing cover.

Can't believe you have the dream machine. I would have talked your ear off even more, had you mentioned the Holy Grail Kenmore, with a Suds-Saver, no less. So how do you like a taste of heaven on earth, Mister Frigiman?

You can't post a pic of the most coveted agitator in existence without a lenghty dissertation or a video.

I've heard that the clothes skate to the center post and fly down,

As far as I know, no one has the Rotoflex in operation except you, Jim.

So how 'bout a disseration, Baby!? ;'D Power fin won't do. Go for it!

Your photos are fabulous. I can't be the only one drooling.
