Hi Guys,

I need help with this Aussie made Healing / Thor "Goddess", otherwise known as your Philco. These were made here in Australia under licence to Philco. The machine came from a farm and as you can see, has been neglected for some years!!

Yes, its quite filthy inside, but i'm sure it can be restored to its full glory IF i can get certain parts for it.

When i started dismantling the agitator to start cleaning, i noticed the agitator boot had totally disintegrated and the agiator disk needs replacing too. The tub diaphragm seems in ok condition.

What i am hoping is that one of you might have a spare agitator boot and disk or know where i can get one? So far, none of my contacts here in Australia can help and these machines are very rare to find now. I won't give up looking for the parts here in Oz, but since some of you already have the equivalent machine working, I thought i would ask. Of course, I would be happy to pay for the parts and any freight involved.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Regards
Leon

BENDIX PARTS IN MEXICO

Hi everyone. Today I was looking on a Mexican appliance parts page for some parts and found that they sell a lot os parts for Bendix washer. The pictures you show are exactly the same as the Bendix washers look like here in Mexico about 15 years ago. Maybe you can get the parts here. In the third page of the link I´m providing you can find the agitator lower part, in the fifth is the cap of the upper agitator part, on the last page is the middle part. Theay also have a few more parte. The address of this store is Monterrey near USA frontier so I guess there will be no problem for them to ship you the parts you need. I hope this information helps. If you need additional help or information please let me know. I will be glad and willing to help.

Sorry. Address misunderstanding!!!!!

I´m really sorry. I thought you were writting from the US. But I still guess there will be no problem for them to do the shipping. In a extreme case I think there are possibilities for me to buy and send them to you but not pretty sure about how you can pay me. Let me check everything and will let you know.

Hello Ultramatic,

Although i don't undertand the language on the website, they are the exact parts i need!

I am sure something could be arranged with regards to payment: I can always send an international money order or pay through "Paypal".

Please let me know what you think.

Leon

1964 "Healing Thor Goddess" (a/k/a Philco in the U

"mayfan69":

I checked out the website as well, and it looks like there are parts still available yet for this classic.

Now..... the next question being, now that you know parts are still available for this beauty, when are you going to be able to get her going again????

Being that this washer is 44 years old, I didn't know that parts were still available for this machine, being that they're now as extinct as dinosaurs.

Again...... let us know when you get her going again.......

When going to get her going?

mayfan69's profile picture
Hi Charles,

Well...as soon as i buy the parts and get them shipped to Oz, I'll start working on her.

Apart from the agitator boot and disk, she'll need to be completely re-wired.

Thank god i have the repair manual for this machine.

Will keep you and everybody informed

Cheers
Leon

Sorry to have to tell you this..........

But the Philco parts listed in the Mexican website DO NOT interchange with the model that you show in the pictures. Although the mechanism is very similar, the parts for sale are actually for the later model Philco/Ford washer built starting in 1965. Please check the photos and parts very carefully so you are not disappointed and wasting your money buying parts that wont fit. The agitator rubber from the two different models do not interchange.........neither do the pump parts or really any other agitator part. Sorry to have to tell you this, but you should know before you spend a lot and are very disappointed when they arrive and do not fit......

Thanks Jimmy

Well, back to the drawing board then!
Doesn't seem i will probably get the parts i need.
Think i'll put the machine in storage until it can be resurrected...if ever.

Cheers

FYI, Here Are The Two Different Agitator Styles

This is the early style Philco agitator,,, which is the one that is used in your machine.........

Later Style... Philco/Ford......circa 1965

Later style agitator used in my Philco Flex A Wash, Blades Of Water washer.........

Post# 298439 , Reply# 18   8/21/2008 at 21:25 (5,697 days old) by filterflo (Chicago Area)

Alas, not one single part interchanges. The parts listed for sale on the Mexican site appear to be the later style only.......

Jimmy, I must say thank you for sharing your Bendix/Philco knowledge. I too thought it amazing that there was the possibility that a Mexican alternative was available.

Thanks for clearing someone of a headache! :-)

Ben

Hey Jimmy,

Ahhhh...thanks for that info...Yes, mine is the earlier version defintely!

And i'm not in any hurry, i'm arranging for the machine to go into storage where it will stay until it can be fixed. If you are able to find any of the parts i need, I would be grateful.

I will still look for any contacts here in Oz that may have them in the meantime, but so far no one here has kept any of these parts.

I would defintely love to see this machine back to its original glory.

Cheers
Leon

Hi Leon

Congrats on that great find. I had no idea those machines were sold here.

A lead for you if you like clutching at straws - there was an office of Healco in Brunswick in Melbourne till about 10 or 15 years ago. They were the agents for Bendix washers, I bought parts for 1970s Bendix machines there, they had several very old bendix FLs on display and I got the impression they had a good stash of parts going back many years. The name Healco suggests to me that they were originally Healing.
That business has now closed up, I have no idea what happened to their stock but you could try the current Bendix Melbourne agents and ask if they are associated with the old Healco, or if they know what happended to them and their stock.

Good luck with it.

Chris.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the info. Any lead is worthwile. One of my contacts mentioned a place in Brunswick, so i have to assume it would have been the same company...so I will do some research and see what comes of it!

You just never know. I will let you know how i go.

Cheers
Leon
