"Webmaster,

I recently bought an old house and found two vintage Frigidaire automatic washers in my basement. One is a model WO65 and the other is a WCI59. Each appears to be in fairly good condition. I do not know if either work. I also have a Frigidaire dryer model number TO60. I live in Southwest Virginia and could send pictures to any interested party."

If they had bought a Maytag in '59, it would still be hooked up and running!

Hee hee...

Amazing what is still out there, isn't it? What a great find!

Man, I want that '59 washer!

That's my dream machine, the only one I want -or have room for. Someday one will show up in or around Michigan, but odds are I'd have to fight off any number of other members for it.

The WO65...

pulsator's profile picture
I can't really tell just by looking, it appears to be an early machine judging by the light on the panel and the metal agitator column. Is this a two rinse machine or an overflow rinse machine? Is does drain right into the cabinet right? No pesky outer tub to dampen the fabulous sound? ;)

The seller sent me this pic of the WO65's interior, looks like it might need a new lint chaser? Also, is it just me, or does the machine look wet? Like someone tried to turn it on? Apparently successfully if it was able to drain?

You know, Junior! *LOL* (As Bette would say)

One has to admire a young man that handles his business.

Congrats and good luck with yet another fabulous addition to your collection.

Jamie------

It is easy to fix the Lint Chaser ring. That looks like the old version of the "salt-shaker" detergent column.

Take the cap off and unscrew column. Turn the column upside down and slide a large rubber band down the column to a point just above the indention that normally holds the Lint Chaser ring in place. Then turn the column over and adjust the rubber band untill it holds the Lint Chaser ring in the place you want it.Make sure it is even all the way around. I actually prefer them to ride just a bit higher than the factory designated indention on the column, to improve the "splash-over".

When the ring is where you want it to stay----take a good (I use High-Temp automotive) clear "Liquid Gasket" and put a good thick row of it on the underside of the ring against the column to glue it in place. Let it sit a good 24 hrs. or so before using. Just remove rubber band and re-install column.

Best wishes to you, and I hope you greatly enjoy the new toy!

Jamie, you can't tell much from that picture and no this is a 2 rinse machine, the WO-65. It was made from 1950-1951. The overflow rinse machines started in 1952 with the WO-65-2.

YAY Jamie - you'll love the WO-65. A great addition for your collection. Looking forward to your after clean-up photos.

Seems the WCI-59 has been sold - wonder to whom?

Congratulations Derrek!!!

A great Multimatic (also known as Multitragic, but not by me) machine. I had that exact model WCI-59. There are a number of us who have worked on them, so if you need any questions answered, please feel free to ping one of us. Rich (TrainGuy) has the washer now, I traded him a 1967 WCIL, because he had the matching dryer. It ran perfectly and quietly.

Congratulations again!!!

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes on the 59-WCI! I am certainly looking forward to it's arrival. This will keep me busy. I haven't given up on finding a white 60-WCI to match my 60-DCI! I have a feeling it will show up very soon. Thanks Ben & Davy1063 ! Davy1063 I have admired your work on the 59-WCI that you traded to Rich. It was stunning! If anyone has any ideas on cleaning products for me to use on the 59-WCI ...please let me know.

What finds!

As amazing as finding these is the thoughtfulness of the seller to contact aw.org rather than just have them hauled off. I don't know if he was aware of our group or did some research to find it. I'm sure Robert thanked him.

Enjoy the new machines, I'll be waiting for photos of their progress!
