Depending on the vintage of the Spin-Drier, make sure the pump pulley rotates smoothly by hand before starting it. If it's seized-up (extremely common on these machines), it can munch the belt when you go to run it. On my Spin-Drier, I had to rotate the pump every time I went to use it :-) Also, an operational tip: When filling the machine, religiously observe the fill line for the water level. Others here can give you better info on whether that fill line (usually cast into the agitator about 2/3rds of the way up, or on later models, stamped into the wash tub) means "fill it with water to here and then add clothes" or if it means "the total level of clothes and water should not go higher than here". To be safe, I usually assumed it meant the latter. In any case, overfilling with water can cause water to go down the agitator shaft and into the transmission, meaning a yucky mess if it then displaces oil and causes the tranny to leak. You don't need to be obsessive about this--just mindful, and your Spin-Drier will give you years of excellent service :-) And you can blow through a ton of clothes with those bad boys if you reuse the wash water...especially when your diet pill's a-wearin' off! ;-) |

I have one of these babies and they are a lot of fun. Best of luck with it! My pump diverter busted off but i was able to get it glued back on with gorilla glue. Ended up having to make a pump gasket on my own tho. I would say it might be wise to get some nice hot eater down there first and let it set before fooling with the diverter. |
