Jamie and I went to nab the Whirlpool set from Craigslist last night. They are in desperate need of a bath but I've not had time to polish them. Here are a few pics to satisfy the curious cats!

As with any new washer, you get a sample of detergent!

(actually, these came from an estate sale today!)

Greg, Thats a sweet Set of Whirlys. I do like avocado, always did. Looks like they have the darker shading around the edges, you sure dont get a savvy finish like that anymore. best of luck with them. arthur

I could be wrong but doesn't this set look exactly like those when Bobby Brady put too much soap in the washer?

Eh, it's a Whirlpool...

But that detergent score is off the hook!!! Is there still much scent in them? Congrats on that score! Almost as exciting as finding an Apex!

So will these be added to the permanent collection?

Wow what an awesome set! Congrats! I haven't seen a lot of Whirlpools with an infinite water level. Seems like Kenmore put them in more models than WP did. I'm looking forward to hearing what sort of mechanical shape these beauties are in.

Incidentally, I have a similar (but slightly lower in the food chain I think) washer (no dryer to go with) that I got from Wisconsin for a site member in Raleigh. It was bought through ebay this summer. It is of the same generation and also Avocado. The intended owner has not been able to get the washer picked-up, so if anyone here is interested, please let me know. I had not intended to keep it and would be glad to see an enthusiast give it a good home. Right now it's hamming it up in storage with my Kenmores and the few WPs I have.

Congrats again on the find Gansky! Oh, btw - I loved the Oxydol and Fab back in the day. It would be cool if there is still some scent left in that stuff.

Gordon

MMMMMM - classy! Nice score guys, and you'll be swimming in mountains of suds! That fabric softener dispenser has about as much funk as the songs from the same era of the washer ;-)

That baby is NOT the water hog, only one cool-down on the combo perma/knits cycle. The double cool-down is such overkill anyhoo. Never use it. Had no idea there was such interest in this incarnation of the WP. I'll have to take some pix of its harvest gold twin. You'll know which is older/younger. I is too dumbe.

See you scored a box of hen's teeth. How much for a cup;'D;'D;'D

Awwwws!!!

That is the exact set my grandmother had except in white!!!! I think its the same year as that lovely Avacado Kenmore I got from Tucson which is an exact match (color and all) to the machine my aunt had!!

Thanks for grabbing these Greg! I honestly never thought I'd ever see them again! People must have liked those older whirlpools in Omaha, remember your neighbor had that yellow set that you kept the tops for all those years?

Well I don't know what you are planning to do with that pair or if they are already "taken" but if not I'm most definetely interested, cleaned, uncleaned, working nor working extra profit, whatever!

Thank you so much for showing those pictures!! It seems the folks at applianceville always come through, when I happened to logon one time and found that 55 frigidaire that I got from Oregon, same thing happened on the green kenmores when i found out were up for trade, and now these!

Just an update (since I'm not a frequent visitor) Stef and I got married and we have our baby due in a few days so its a busy time for us. I can't tell you how rewarding it is to have found someone ya love who understands you and your hobbies (and doesn't mind the old washing machines) and to bring a bundle of joy into this world with is just plain amazing. You guys have always been there for me since the yahoo club days and I never said how much I appreciated the love and care you bestowed on me in my time of need.

Thanks again for sharing the pics! I'm going to save them locally so I can stare at them over and over!!

Steven

Fifty-freakin'-eight mother-lovin' inches of freakin' metal and porcelain just to wash and dry 8 stinkin' pounds of laundry. In more than fifty freakin' gallons of potable water with a cup of Clorox, a cup and a quarter of Tide and one, maybe two capfuls of NuSoft!

God I miss the Sixties!

Very cool old WP Greg! Nice to still be able to find a "set" with the original partner from the early 1970's.

That Surgilator will kick up all kinds of suds with that vintage detergent in it. Put at box two in there with a big ass load of towels, and see if you *might* be able to get it to suds lock... lol!!

Hello

i wanted to say that these beautys beats today ' s washers big time because nothing can beat a good old fashion surgilator agitor belt drive washer fill with water that sends the suds in the fabric of the clothe.

Great find.

Model Question

About the same vintage we had a Mark Series in Harvest. It did not have the woodgrain front panels or the versatile door at home. We also had a Supreme 70 series at the beach in avocado. It had the same cycle sequence, but had a know for water temp. Was that the only difference between the supreme 70 and 80?

Wow, Greg!

Awesome finds! We will have to hit the estate sales and thrift stores when I visit Omaha one of these days. I can smell the Fab with Lemon Freshened Borax all the way down here in Florida!! That was my favorite detergent as a kid.

Have fun =)
