It does not agitate but spins in both directions

Something has to be busted I am not sure what it is

Does something in the spin part lock so it can pulsate and keep the tub from rotating in the wash cycle

That's my Frigidaire...

I have been told its one of two things:

1) The clutch is broken OR
2) A torque spring needs replacing in the transmission

I have not had a chance to get to it yet

This is likely a Rollermatic that has bad rollers. In agitate direction, the spring-mounted rollers for agitate are "drawn" to the motor hub thus transferring power to the agitate mechanism. When the motor reverses for spin, the spin roller is drawn to the hub and power is transferred to the spin mechanism. I would guess that the spin roller is stuck in position to transfer the power in both directions. There is a clutch in this mechanism, but it appears to be working OK, as is the tub brake.

Check to see that all the rollers are clean and move in and out on their brackets as they were intended to. It's only slight movement, but enough to keep it from making contact with the hub. Use lighter fluid on a rag to clean the rollers and be sure all surfaces of the rollers and driven "wheels" are clean.

It's a Multimatic

Hi gansky

It's actually a Multimatic...all Australian built Frigidaires were Multimatics.

Cheers
Leon

Jetcone/Deep-Action throws off the carbon dating...

Oh, a Multi-tragic!

Then you most likely do have a broken clutch spring. ;-) Do you have a source for parts there?

Just curious

Would the broken clutch spring be part of the motor/pulley/belt set up, or would that be the one inside the transmission?

Which clutch spring?

Hey Jed,

The guy i bought some tools and parts off who used to fix Frigidaire's told me to look at the clutch between the belts first...in his experience, that was the cause of a lot problems.

Cheers
Leon

We had this a few days ago about the multimatic...

The machine looks like it "wants" to pulsate but can't, I wonder if there's something else inside the tranny amiss?
