Hey Everyone, I found a listing on craigslist for a Kelvinator dryer.....Anyone have any idea when these were last produced? The seller doesn't have a clue to the age, just says that it is "older" If anyone could give me a time-line I'd appreciated it.
Thanks!
Mark

Kelvinator.

Kelvinator made washers and dryers in the 1950s-the 1980s? They were affiliated with ABC and their washers used the same mechanism. They were eventually bought out by the dreaded WCI, but I don't know when. Eventually, (1980s I think) WCI dropped the name on domestic appliances here after sufficiently ruining their reputation and sucking it dry. You could have a real Kelvy, which would be a rare and wonderful treat, or you could have a WCI. Either way, they are worth a look.

they are worth a look.

Thanks Dave, I will check it out further....would be cool if it is a real "Kelvy" from the '50s or '60s......will keep everyone posted.....

Kelvinator/WCI

Hi Mark, I have a 1977 "Kelvinator" refrigerator, and it was built by WCI. The quality is fine with my fridge, and the only problem I have ever had was the thermostat control unit. The original ice maker still even works.
It has the cool old style Kelvinator logo with the silver knight head with the red background. But it is still a WCI, and not really a Kelvinator.

Point is, WCI owned the Kelvinator name as far back as 1977, and possibly further back than that.

Good luck with your find. Hope it is an original Kelvinator, but it still may be fairly cool even if it's an early WCI "Kelvinator"

Hi Brent, yes the RR is from 1974. Sorry I don't have a close up of the fridge. Am still on 35mm film. The pixs is from a few years ago, and was taken to feature the microwave.

It is a pretty good fridge, really. I have owned it for about 10 years. If I ever find something older with freezer space, that fits back there in that "cove" I would get rid of this one. Thats what happens when you live in a 120 year old house. You tend to buy appliances for the "fit" rather than brand/features. Even though the kitchen was remodeled, there still is not that much space for a fridge. The room has four doorways going into it, so that cuts the room up. The kitchen only had room for an ice box prior to the remodel, so I gained something. lol!

Rick, I might have the 'fridge you need. It's an early 60's Westinghouse, just got it in. Beautiful shape. Details to follow.....

My Dishwasher...

Has been gone for a couple years, however, will be back again in April. Not only does the dishes, cooks, cuts the lawn, can also bench press 385 lbs. These are just a few reasons why I do not look for a "replacement". Even if it was a Frigidaire. lol!

Kenny, I will be watching for the Westinghouse! <:

Westy Fridge

here's the 'fridge, Rick. It's sitting in my garage running, it holds good temperature, haven't checked the defrost yet. Also, it's not as pristine as I remember. Not bad, but not perfect.

Ya gotta love the handles it has. Definately that 60's look, with the woodgrain, and Westinghouse logo!

Inside

The shelves need wire brushed, and painted. Also, the freezer door liner has a small crack in it.

discolored...

...at the bottom of the refrigerator door. May have been in a garage or basement. I'm not sure if this would polish out or not. Also has some marks on the side where it was against a cabinet.

Well, thats a cool looking frost free fridge Kenny. Love the chrome trim! Can you tell me the dimensions? And is the inside porcelain or plastic?

WOW! 1968?? I did not know it was that early. Thanks Patrick!

Kenny, that fridge would fit, as long as it is not over 31" wide. I will email you tomorrow. Thanks!
