I am curious if you could help me with the value of this washing machine...& if so, would I be permitted to place it on your site for sale. It is model #91562 Serial #5541. It was rebuilt in 1975, a new transmission, oil & gasket, spin tube, top bearing seals, pump, & belt. It is in perfect working order. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Looks like the original Straight-Vane agitator has been replaced with a mid 1950s Surgilator...

HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!! Is that a metal Surgilator? I can see the gears turning in your head Jed... Will your mom really notice if you swap out that Whirlpool washer with this one? They both say Whirlpool, and the controls ARE on the front on both of them.... She wouldn't notice a THING! lol

That's the only surviving one in that style as far as I know. Looks to be in great shape.

Wowee! That is gorgeous - I'd burn a week off work to drive to Kansas City to pick that up if the price were right!
What would a machine in this condition realistically sell for??

Wow - the washer that started it all for belt drives. This seriously needs to be in a museum collection. Very cool - and your right Brian I think this might be the only one that has come up over the years here.

Like all other machines, the value is what the buyer is willing to pay (max), and what the seller is willing to let it go for (lowest).

I think the agitator is a very worn bakelite surgilator with the original metal cap.

I used to have the matching dryer. I think it's in Virginia these days. Nice washer!

Robert, do you have any idea what the selling is asking for this Wonderful piece of history?
Since i'm only 3 1/2 hours fron KC it would be an easy days drive.

Hi Mark, nope when I post these its up to everyone who is interested to work out the details privately. I do not get involved in any way shape or form, that is why I posted the sellers email.

more info on 1950 whirlpool sudsaver

the agitator is the original aluminum surgilator that came on that machine...it was a top of the line sud-saver machine. 7 non-suds & 7 sud-savers were offered at that time. the lower end machines came with the straight vane. We looked it up in our original service literature. We are a 55 yr old whirlpool family business, this unit has been on our showroom as a conversation piece since 1975. We put 250.00 in it back then. we contacted w-pool archives & antiques were told this machine is worth 750 to 1500 depending on condition. We also have a monitor top fridge on kc's craig's list..also gorgeous!

I can see the price range for this machine now. Well, I'm kinda glad I already have my similar 51 Kenmores, they did require a few hundred dollars worth of work to get them going plus some time. Shipping my machines cost me about $1000. I was fortunate enough to get three of the machines for free, one on Craigslist and a set from Gansky -- thanks again(he had received them for free and thought it not right to charge). Anyway, for an really old daily driver they are working great. While I was looking I would have seriously considered a like new machine like this.

Sounds like there is a potential matching dryer out there too.
