Robert,
I just revisited your videos of your 1947 GE.
I must say that I think this is the most interesting machine that I have ever seen.
Do you use it a good often? What is your favorite thing to wash in it for it's cleaning ability?
I posted a link where the videos are on the website.

Hi Brent, this machine is wonderful for towels, jeans or anything covered in dog hair. The spin is by far the best, better than any other machine I've used, vintage or modern.

I can imagine....

I watched the videos again, and could not get over the mechanics of this machine, and how well it ran!
I love the wash action, the suds kill, and that amazing spin.
I can't remember, but did you have to do much the the actual machine to get it running? I remember is was stored for quite awhile.
This is when GE was really making their name in laundry equipment.
I wonder if any other exist in this model.
Thanks for your responds.
Brent

ROBERT!!

How can you say that the GE is "by far the best" spin of any other machine?? What about the Unimatic?!! What about the other early Frigidaires? I just can't belive my ears (well, eyes if you wanna get technical) do you really mean it? That's like saying Sabrina The Teenage Witch is FAR SUPERIOR to Bewitched!

I just will not sleep tonight. Pfffft!

Ahhh, but remember...

The 1947 GE achieves Unimatic spin-speed. It also filters lint and cleans its own lint screens.

That is, in the words of Snoop Dogg, pretty kiz-ool. :-)

The GE also has a ribbed tub and a 3 min longer spin than the Unimatic, reulting in the driest clothes ever.

GE-AW6 vs. Unimatic

unimatic1140's profile picture
Both the GE and the Unimatic spin at 1140rpm and both produce very dry clothes. The main difference between the two is the final Spin in a Unimatic is 4 minutes vs. a 9 minute spin in the GE. When I spin the Super Unimatic for 9 minutes the clothes come out equally as dry as in the GE, so it really all has to do with the amount of time spinning, adding 5 more minutes really does make a difference.

RPMs

Robert,
I just wondering how the rpms on this 47 machine compairs to
machines today esp. front loaders? I have a Sears front loader (2005) and clothes almost come out dry. You machine looks small as far a capacity, how many pounds does it hold?

This machine really has engineering heads and shoulders above the rest. Every aspect of it was designed with forethought!

Beautiful piece Robert! Just beautiful!

Jon,
The more I see it, the more I love it.
It blows my mind how GE started out.....
It was truly a engineering marvel! And I am not only talking about the high speed spins. Everything in between also applies!
Was the matching dryer the Hamilton?
