A Frigilux Bedtime Story

Once upon a time, late on an autumn night, when the moon was full and bright
The Aworg Archangel descended upon Geoff in the deep beautiful sleep of luxurious middle age
He sprinkled Geoff with mechanic dust, perfectly and evenly coating Geoff's entire soul
When Geoff awakened he found that his ability had been elevated to giftedness
And he could now take down a machine with the best of them.

In the same season, far across the huge blue Atlantic, the great Godmother Washer of all Aworg folk,
Mike of Chester was busy at finance thinking of ways to fund the purchase of a Lear Jet.
He was so beloved by his friends in America that he missed their company and wanted to see them more often and quickly.
He was humble about the enormous affection his America brothers had for him
And he wanted to be able to share their company as much as possible. A Lear jet was the only way.

Meanwhile, when Geoff awakened, his long-standing dream of making a Double Tub Maytag would now come true since he now possessed the where-with-all.

So the happy boys put their heads together and decided that Geoff would make the machines and Mike would sell them. After huge sales of this quintessential classic British pseudo Twin Tub--more or less-- Mike would make a fortune, and he could cohabit-ate in America. Geoff would live in Maytag Permanent Glory.

Here are very rough prototypes; more refined versions to come soon

#1 Wringerless and spin-free the AAMP, almost automatic Maytag Cadillac

I missed the missing foot but you can see the platform wedges

Also, the Chrome Caddy, E2LS has better legs but she's older I think, than the J2L Have to get out the Ben-Geoffometer to discern her age. The J2L is a 66 if memory serves.

Mike, Mike, Mike ... I'm speechless; such a story!! :-) I love it!!

You had the brains and the brawn to create a double-tubbed Maytag prototype; such foresight!! I think the Aworg Archangel sprinkled YOU with mechanic's dust.

"Luxurious" middle age ... who are you kidding? :-)

Chestermike ... what do you think of this character? Does that sound like a lucrative business proposition to you? I do like the idea of the Lear Jet, however. Can we use it to go back and forth and see you, too? :-)

You guys should have been in my garage last night; I had quite a Maytag Mess going on. My October 1983 Model N2LPS was dripping quite a bit of oil/grease/fluid from around the wringer post. I purchased this machine brand new from the showroom floor in 2005 (yes ... 25 years after it was made and it was still on the showroom floor). I suspected something must have gone terribly wrong as the grease that is in the wringer post is extremely thick. Sure enough, when I broke it apart last night, quite a bit of water came out. That means only one thing, water got through the center seal in the center plate (where the agitator is) and has made its way through the transmission, right angle drive and into the wringer post. Time for a complete oil and grease change and new gaskets!! Another project!!

Thanks again for the great story, Mickey! I am so glad to see that you saved the poor E2LPS from the crusher. Now, all you need is the Model N and you will have a complete set!!

Somebody likes to play in the water! Did you get in trouble as a kid when you'd make big messes with water? I did...all the time.

You have to come to the next wash-in - or have one! Your view looks just spectacular.

Please forgive the negligence , Gentlemen. Spankings are in

mickeyd's profile picture
JON~ there's more FF coming for you!;'D Are you still handsome ?*giggle*

PETER~Go get one man; you'll never regret it.

GREG~ Many, many spankings for splashing. Hope to have the garage "studio" done in two summers. Right now, there are five "wash centers" throughout the house. If that would work, I could have one next summer. You're welcome anytime anyway.

PETER~ Thanks, I think of you every time I spider hunt with the Kirby

TERRY~ Thank you. Likewise. Can't wait to see you again. We had such fun at cocktail hour and dinner. Canton left me with wonderful memories, all because of your generous invitation to us washer folks.

JED~ So is your pic today awesone in the E2LS Thread --a study in gray beauty--the ancient Tag Agi in the E2LS thread

AIR~ Thank you. I love to share Mother Nature's beauty. You'll have to come and see it sometime

ROTO~ I get all squiggly when you talk pretty!!!!;'D Thank you so very much

GEOFF~ Let's see how sharp your memory is, Buddy Boy! About a year ago, maybe less, wrote to you about the very same oil leak coming down the rear left leg of the J2L. You said you had never heard of that. So I was doomed if Geoff can't help. And then miraculously, it stopped. About 1/4 cup had leaked out. The Lady never blinked. JUst hope and pray that your stops too. Of course blessed with Aworg Goddess Technodust, you'll figure it out and fix it.

More than anything I love sharing what I have and making people happy. Have it your way!!! The kids don't call me "Mickey. D" and "Mikiey" for nothing.

Mickey ... I said that I hadn't heard of the oil coming out of the wringer post leg? What? Was I being funny or something?

That's one of the more common things that these Maytag's had wrong with them.

The grease in the "power" leg (or wringer post leg, whichever you prefer), when new, is more "solid" than the transmission fluid. Over time, two things can happen ... the grease breaks down with regular use and becomes liquified, or ... water has seeped in through the center plate seal, through the right angle drive and into the power leg causing the grease to liquify.

Either way, these machines will need a tear down and rebuild with fresh grease, transmission fluid and gaskets. I've done a lot of them.

That's normally what's wrong with them. That's what I'm going to do my Model N2LPS.

Slap me silly for not indicating that sooner!! :-)

Hey Geoff, how are ya, Man? :+>

mickeyd's profile picture
I'll look for the thread; it was pretty funny.

Maybe I fixated on oil coming out of a leg without mentioning the wringer and caused you to focus on that, overlooking the power leg.

And I would never slap you. Spankings are more fun, so silly, and well-padded what with our heavy northern under-clothes, not to mention far less violent.

I'm just so glad mine stopped and hope yours does so that you can postpone the tear down till Spring.

I loved the photo of the agitators especially the "rose" colored one. About the post-less Gyrator: could have sworn I saw one, way back when, in an Automatic Maytag, or did I dream it the way I did the Bronze Easy and the Conventional Frigidaire?

Hi Mike....what are you like..great fun as per!!!Oh my now thats a proposition, whats old is new again...nowthen a lear jet would be fine and dandy..me thinks I`ll have to sell a lot more Zugs at those jet prices...Lol

Geoff, had the pleasure of hitchin a ride with MickeyD at the last convention, so much fun that man...what we didnt talk about..mainly washers!!!Yes I think the jet usage for all, we need some dual fun wash-ins...would love to see you all over the big pond...

Guys, a few of you spotted some Maytags I have over here in the latest pics, so here they are all together, finally getting the garage sorted!!

TopLoaders A206 & DE306, electric 30amp dryer so that wont be getting connected!!washer works a treat so quiet and great turnover!! all 240volts, these where sold in one store in London at the time!!!

Wringer Washer, came all the way from Newton, to Italy with a US airforce family, and then landed over here, the grandson was a baby when it came over and he had it in storage, he was so sad at finally having to let it go!! its a 110v,

Maytag Twinny - wow, how did this get here, a guy has a business refitting American camper vans and took this out to fit a shower area...so I managed to bag it!!, again 110v, this scared the crap out of me with that spin brake on the dryer, never experienced that on a twinny before,

Isnt it weird, at the 2005 convention with Greg, we managed to make a final visit to Maytag, Newton, with the guys for a last time, then all this Maytag lineup comes within my grasp!!! couple that with the MaytAsko front loaders, quite a little Maytag corner...Just need to get the Singer Futura out to whip up those Maytag Curtains...LOL

As soon as I saw that, I started laughing. Truly, you have missed your calling, YOU are a REAL comedian.

What I really had in mind before the crash was that 5 or 6 of us could pool our 401/ 403's--whatever-- and buy a jet helicopter together, something we could afford and share. What I don't know is, can those wondrous birds negotiate a transatlantic flight.

Hey, yeah! if not with all the talent here, we could tear down and restore a Concord!!!!

On a washer note: I'm straight away to the garage to quick-stop the Tag portable. Don't remember the brake that scared the feces out of you. But, then again, haven't had her on in over a year. If ya don't hear from me again, then, me shat meself to death ;+>

Your Maytag corner is gorgeous.
