Hi all!

What vintage is this machine. What is Creda's reputation for quality in Europe? Since this is a 220v I'm guessing it was brought over by someone.

Any info is appreciated!

Guy

Oh, I would say...

from the 1990s. Probably mid-Nineties to late Nineties. It looks UK Hotpoint-ish, as they were separate entities in the same group.

Creda was well known for their cookers: Creda 'Cavalier', Creda 'Carefree', Creda 'Aspire'. Both my Gran and my Mum had their Creda cookers for well over 25 years each.

Creda were a rival to Belling who also made cookers; 'Baby Belling', Belling 'Format'. I think Creda introduced one of the first thermostats on an electric cooker, in the UK.

I noticed a trend over the past few years, that the Creda name is being integrated into the Hotpoint range of appliances. In fact I saw a Hotpoint cooker that had "Creda Collection" on the control panel. This means that the Creda name has all but disappeared, which is a great pity.

I'm not sure about someone bringing it over....
It has american spelling in the programme list -
Colors fast
Colors Non fast etc

It also has the fahrenheit temperature scale on it. Going from 85* to 200*. I cannot recall a creda or hotpoint machine over here from that range having a temperature dial on them.

A real puzzler!
Either way, lovely machines!

Creda was sold in the USA for a while. IIRC that was about ten years ago.

My friend had an electra washing machine that was the same design as the Creda there, it had the temperature dial. It was a good machine, had a better spin sequence than my WM31 anyway! I would have loved a temperature dial on the machine!

Creda and Hotpoint are and were the same thing. At the time they were both brands of GDA (General Domestic Appliances) co-owned by General Electric Company (GEC) [a UK company] and GE (US).

GDA was purchased outright by Merloni (Indesit) in 2001.

Creda's now a range of cooking appliances marketed under the Hotpoint (or Hotpoint-Ariston).

They were low/mid-range machines, nothing particularly brilliant. They did their job without any fuss.

Unusual in so far as the motor's mounted at the top of the machine rather than at the bottom.

It was probably purchased at some higher end appliance store in Toronto or such when it was new. For awhile back in the 70's and 80's I remember some of them in VAncouver and Calgary would carry various unheard of Euro, UK and even Australian appliances. For example SMEG and St.Georges etc as well as the more known Mieles

Interesting, were they 110V versions or were they just hoping that they'd work on Canadian 220V 60Hz split phase supplies if connected from hot to hot ?!
