Well, my aunt has finally decided to replace her Roaring Norge with a new GE Hydrowave! She's promised her Norge to me and in return I just need to use my discount at Big George's Appliance Mart and get her a good deal. My sales person told me a few days ago that GE plans on spiking their appliance prices 10%-20% starting in January to help with the splitting of the GE appliance division and GE. That was the tipping point for my aunt that it's finally time!

The reasons that she is looking to replace her old machine are:
1) You can clearly hear the machine from any room in the house, even standing outside on the front porch! So, she is very limited as to when she can do laundry without disturbing the rest of the family.
2) She says the machine doesn't spin like it used to and so she has to run the final spin twice or the clothes will take a lot longer to dry. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Anyway, it looks like we both will be getting good Christmas presents this year!! YAY!!! Another dream machine!!!!!

Would this Norge still be made by Borg Warner or is it a Fedders Norge ? Anyway, Good Luck with your Great Machine.

They were the only company(Other than FRIGIDAIRE)I really liked for their washer abilities. That agitator really turned the clothes over and it really spun fast!the school secretary,Ms Doris, had a Montgomery Ward version(Signature)of this and had me come look at it saying the water wasn't draining out. I took a look at it and turned it on.As I turned the timer dial to spin and it began pumping,I noticed it was a slow drain so I went and pulled the unit forward and saw the drain hose had a major kink in it!I went and straightened it out and the difference was remarkable. Doris was so excited she needn't go and buy a new one and handed me a $50 bill!!My conscience got the best of me and I insisted to give her half back. But she refused and actually called my parents to let them know I would be "loaded' with cash when I got home so they wouldn't question where I got the money. That machine lasted her at least 18 years.

Congrats on a dream machine Jamie!

It looks to be in great shape! Who knows (I certainly don't), maybe all it needs is a new belt. Have fun with this and take lots of pictures (and videos)!

Jamie,
That is a great looking machine! It looks to be in great shape! The console looks mint!
Do you know if does the slow turning drain like Jon's, and then kicks into high speed spin?
What was the dryer your aunt was using?
Glad you saved it and it will stay in the family.
Brent

Toploader- Not really sure who it's made by, I don't know the difference between the 2 machines.

Jed- Ya, I hope it's a somewhat easy fix, I know these machines are a complete BITCH to work on!

Jon- I already know I love it Jon! As a kid, I thought it was the COOLEST washer EVER because of that burping agitator and the ROAR it made while running!!! However, I used to only watch the wash cycle and then run for my life, that solenoid scared the SHIT out of me the first time I watched it!(literally) The agitation stopped, it started draining and then BANG! I was about 8 the first time I saw it and I did manage to need to borrow a pair of my cousin's underwear! After that, I learned that when the agitation stopped, I had better RUN! lol

Brent- From what I remember, it does not slowly rotate, instead, it drains about 2/3 of the way then the brake solenoid BANGS and it starts to spin. My aunt originally had the matching set, but she hated the dryer because she found herself dusting the laundryroom after almost every load! It finally died and was replaced with a BOL Whirlpool, she said that the washer "stopped spinning like it used to" around the time she got the new dryer. I suspect that the washer may be fine but the new dryer takes forever as it doesn't have a mosture sensor like her old one and she mistakenly blames "The Beast" as her family calls it.

MW/Norge

Hello Pulsator.

I love your machine. Romulus, MI here. The only person I knew in our family that had a Norge was my grandma. If you look at today picture of the day. It was very close to the one in the PID photo.

She had the Montgomery Ward's Signature washer I think from the early to mid-seventies. And boy was it big and noisy just like your aunts washing machine. The lid opened from the left. It was so loud I couldn't tell if the machine was agitating or spinning unless you opened the lid.

I hope you make videos and share them. It would bring back alot of memories for me. Thanks again for sharing the pics.
