Hi Guys

I decided to put the Kelvinator 184 that i bought late last year through its paces. Attached is the original thread with pics and a video i did of it.

Two things i discovered about the machine...it may need new damping pads as its pretty noisy when in spin when its not perfectly balanced (you'll notice it in the video) and the other is that it has NO spray rinse in the either spin cycle on Regular setting...only Permanent Press. This i found a little bizarre.

 Interesting, This machine is featured in Choice magazines 1976 test of washing machines and is rated as having the lowest water consumption all machines tested. It is listed as have used 109 litres of water. It is rated as a fair washer and fair rinser but is rated best off all machines for spin dry.

It was also discontinued in that year and another model introduced that had the same mechanicals underneath as the rockerswitch Simpson, It was a nice one too if you have ever seen it, it had an upright blue control panel broken into three even squares with a white knob in each one, two small knobs and a large timer.

What is interesting is that on the next page is the Rocker Switch Simpson model 106 and you can compare the two machines side by side. The rocker switch is rated as fair to good for washing, fair for rinsing and poor for spinning. It uses 163 litres of water. So whatever changes Simpson made to the design it must of slowed the spin speed right down.

The 1974 range of Simpsons which are before the rockerswitch models were never tested by Choice. Choice tested large washers in 1965, 71 and 76. These tests were very indepth but obviously a lot of models were missed in the mean time. 1971 saw the Fluid Drive tested like you have.

What I find interesting is that Simpson were manufacturing 3 lines of washers up till 75/76. That was the Fluid Drive, the smaller Maytagesque and the larger Maytagesque. That must of been quite expensive.
