Thanks for the link! Looks like a quality machine and I'm glad there's a window, too. I spoke to my dealer, who was at a repair workshop and he said the direct drive feature is great. I believe these machines are built in conjunction with Samsung (at least that's what I've read elsewhere). I see they kept the tilted basket design, too.

I always liked the Neptune machine, and now that it has a window i even like more!
I saw a picture of the soap drawer in the Maytag site, and it looks like the one of a Whirlpool machine (see the link below). Are Maytag and Whirlpool correlated?

Daniele-

At least officially, Maytag and Whirlpool are close to being "mortal enemies."

However, I have always had a fondness for Whirlpool, they've been #2 in my heart for some time, Maytag, until recently, being #1.

I hope this version of Neptune is more reliable.

Haven't had a chance to see these in the flesh yet.

"They" didn't put a window in anything. "They" put their name on another manufacturer's washer and called it their own.

The real question is: What are they going to do with the American-made Neptune that we love to hate? Limit it to coin-op/OPL uses like they did their orbital drive toploaders?

I agree Peter - but in my openion it is the smartest thing they did. I hope these new Neptunes are going to be reliable and come down in price.

I hear the American Neptunes will be moved under the Amana brand.

Just returned from a Maytag service seminar. The old Neptunes are still around and will be priced around 699/799. These new models are manufactured in Korea by Samsung. The high end model is priced at about $1200.00. It has a 1200 rpm top spin speed and a heater. The dryer has a stainless steel drum and they do not stack because of the slanted control panel. There are 2 lower end models coming out that are belt driven. The high end model is direct drive.

Boy that tub sure looks like an LG. And "Direct Drive" I understood to be a trademark of LG. Does F&P use the term "Direct Drive" on their machines?

And Are LG & Samsung Related companies??? Are they part of a larger manufacturing Bund??

That tub sure looks like an LG to me!

F&P's trademark is SmartDrive, far as I'm aware. It may be described as a direct drive mechanism. Isn't the term "direct drive" too generic to be trademarked?

These new Neptunes are built by Samsung. There are Samsung parts in it, Maytag parts in it, and "vendor" parts in it. The drive motor is a Maytag motor. The stainless steel drum is a "vendor" part, meaning other manufacturers use them as well. The rollers on the dryer are Whirlpool, but a different color (blue). The door latch assy on the washer is a "vendor" part also and is used on the W/P Duet washer. I'm sure LG uses some of the same vendors. With the front panels off, they look pretty much the same!

part variety

Nothing new here. Car manfactureres have been doing it for years.

My AMC Pacer has GM power steering, GM steering column, Chrysler transmission, GM alternator, Ford windshield wipers. Except for Ford, who makes their own glass, they buy glass from Libby-Owens-Ford(LOF) or Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG).I noticed the water that most of the water valves on washers and dishwashers are from Dole valve and another vendor. And I'm willilng to bet that plastic items like the agitators and some mechanical items like timers are outsourced, too.

reversing?

Does the wash-plates in the NEPTUNE-TL reverses?
Most negativ comment is that the tangle the clothes badly. Maybe if they sould revers the direction, the clothes could be untangled. Frontloadwashers does that to!!

I don't believe they reverse. Someone who frequents this site has one; hopefully they'll see this thread and provide a definitive answer to your question. From what I recall, I don't think they reverse.
