PLEASE MAKE AN OFFER!

This washer came out of a kitchen of a house. As the story goes, the lady had a wringer washer and a mangle. Her son bought her this washer and a Hamilton dryer for Christmas. The serviceman hooked up the washer ran water in it. He let it pulsate for a moment and then let it spin. The lady was frightened by the spin and never used the washer.

Spectacular!
It may not have the gorgeous console of the Ultra-Clean, but it will do everything a Unimatic can do (love the "salt-shaker" detergent column in these!). What a wonderful example to have in a collection. I use my WO-65-2 as one of my "daily drivers" and it is wonderful!
It is thought by many that the extra extraction and rinse afforded by the WO-65's provides a more effective rinse than the -2 with a single overflow rinse.
I see this particular example comes with the optional (and hard to find) anti-vibration shoes that some people needed for wooden floor installations.
An excellent opportunity!

I've done over 25 loads in my Unimatic and I have noticed NO TANGLING. It's not an issue. They are the most fabulous, purpose-built washing machine ever made.

Tangling and knotting is all about loading and timing. I assumed for years that the problem was with the machine----until I learned a few easy to remember tips.
You have to learn to put sheets, large towels, long legged pants or long-sleeved shirts, etc. into the machine properly. Imagine the tub divided into four sections. Take the item and drop it straight down into a "section" of the tub long-end first. Remember the tremendous roll-over created by the pulsator is rolling the clothes directly from top to bottom----not from side to side! And it does so many times faster than an ocillating agitator!

Also, it doesn't take as long a wash cycle to get the clothes clean most of the time. If you set sheets on a "Heavy Soil" wash they are likely to tangle after all that time! I find a Hot wash with 1/2 cupful of Foca or Viva will clean sheets perfectly on a "Light Soil" setting. Never tangles!

Don't let anything stop you from going after this jewel!

to prevent tangling and knotting. I load the machine just the way it says and it is a nightmare. Dress shirts are the worse and not only do the sleeves twist, but they tie up with other sleeves. I like these machines for towels and mixed loads.

I'd definately make an offer. I've got the matching dryer for it.

Also you mentioned that the son bought here a Hamilton Dryer with it. Is that still around, or long gone?

Please post

To help us all out, please post the price paid for the WO-65. I have bid on similar machines before, although frankly, nothing with this history or condition. I probably never bid enough, but I have a limit. I also must consider the shipping costs, which for me, would be all the way across the country.

Of course we would love to know who is the new owner, and hopefully a photo presentation of the lovely machine running and spinning. I can understand how the spin of a Unimatic could scare someone, the accelleration needs to be seen to be believed.

I am assuming that someone has already claimed this machine, as I would not be able to afford it anyhow. I would like to congratulate the person who is the lucky owner of this machine. I have never seen such an old machine in such mint condition.

Wow! Quite a find, even though it has been a long time ago. I actually happened onto one of these a number of years earlier at the local Whirlpool dealer. It belonged to the grandmother who was deceased and grandkids traded it in for a new set. The washer looked much like this one and was on wheels and had been rolled up to the sink and not really used very much. It was a later model than this one, since it had only the one overflow rinse instead of two and the agitator wasn't aluminum. Nice machine and did a terrific job of washing and spinning the clothes almost dry, but tangled the clothes in knots depending on what you washed and how you loaded it. I definitely could see the objection to the tangling that so many people had. Was a great machine other than that.

Re tangling!

Think about it guys...If the clothes are tangled, that means they have actually been WASHED!!!!!Not just swished around gently as one machine that shall remain nameless will do...M^&*(G

You be right, but Whirlpool washed as well or better and NEVER tangled anything. They were much poorer at extracting water from the clothes though. Incredible what is considered a washing machine these days....

Out of sheer curiosity, did we ever hear where this machine landed? Would be interesting to hear about the current leg of it's life.

What a beauty!

Beautiful washing machine, I am still trying to find one, hopefully someday. I have seen them in action, and they wash better than anything today. It would be amazing to see someone recreate one of these again, I would if I had the resources and $$. Congrats to whoever got this machine, what a treasure.

Not disputing that Frigidaire washers of this vintage washed and spun out as well or better than anything on the market. They were also one of the best built heavy duty machines ever made. Just that the tangling was more than most people would put up with. And many did not want to take the extra care of loading it in a special way to reduce the tangling. But even then it did still tangle clothes, depending on what you were washing. Just a pity they could never completely overcome this deficiency from the beginning.
