My good friends and next-door neighbors at New Market Hardware, here in Saint Louis have recently come into a very handsome Speed Queen model 80 wringer washer.

It is in overall excellent, used condition with only a very few minor dings and scratches in the enamel paint and a little peeling of the SQ emblem on the wringer assembly.

I did not do a water test, but the motor runs smoothly as does the agitator and the wringer. The drain hose is pliable and does not show any visible cracks.

The rubber wringer rollers are clean and pliable and show no signs of wear or compression.

There is little or no abrasion on the enameled tub lining that would have resulted from heavy use. The cast aluminum agitator shows light surface oxidation and is easily removed from its post. The drain screen under the agitator is intact and clean save for some dried-on lint.

The undercarriage shows some very light surface rust. There are no signs of fluid leaking out of the gear case (I’m assuming there is some kind of lubricant in there), nor is there any evidence of water leaks from the wash tub.

There is some dust built up on the motor, no doubt attracted by its cooling fan. This should clean off easily with a vacuum cleaner and/or blower.

Incidentally, Patches the Cat is the model in the attached photos.

If you are interested in adopting this beauty – the Speed Queen, NOT Patches! – please contact:

Not sure which is prettier!

Patches the cat or the washer!

Looks like a REAL hardware store.
