Since I drive daily on the job, I get a little extra time to do what I want. Went on a washer hunt in the vicinity of West Monroe-Monroe Louisiana. Found a dump alongside the road on US80, nothing but KM DD, an Amana dryer 2 KM dryers, 1 Maytag early 80's in Harvest (dryer), a crummy old WCI Frigidaire drop in range, again in HG, a GE FF full of dirty water, a Maytag performa. The owner of the land came along wanting to know what I was doing-told her; we had a nice conversation.

2nd stop-Gregs appliances-rough area of town. No one there, nothing noteworthy except an avocado 70's Whirlpool and some Ge's of various vintages FF's included. Going back again.

3rd stop-Carl's appliance- door open- a friendly older man named Ed behind the counter-told him I was looking for a GM Frigidaire, any! He motioned with his right hand up and down and I said yeah enthusiasticly. Well here comes the hard part, folks. Ed told me he wished I had stopped in a month ago, there was one he had which came from an old lady in perfect shape. He didn't know how old exactly it was but he thought 35 at least. Said it needed a 3 ring agitator!!!! Which would place it in the, you know, category. Not a rollermatic, but a uni or a multimatic. Said he looked around couldn't find and sent the machine to the crusher. Although I remained composed, I was balling like a baby inside. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow I'm going to visit the crusher across the street. Just in case. All is not lost-Ed has my number and knows what I want. I told him all about us, he was impressed but I don't think he uses a computer. He's well aware of what's happened to Maytag and the post GM Frigidaires and GE as well. Have a good night folks, better tomorrows.

The one that got away....

Oh David! So sad. I'm bawling for you and everyone else on this forum!

I hope Ed gives you that call real soon! There are better tomorrows, and there are still GM Frigidaires to be found! :-)

Somebody needs to get the Mission word out to the land. Newspaper! Radio! National Enquirer!

Truthfully, Folks I apologize

I was grieving for the loss of one of our truly magnificient old machines. Hope I didn't sound like a spoiled kid who didn't get the candy in the store! The thrill of the chase is a real rush, I must say. I must get in touch with Marty, aka as agitatethis who lives not far away. This is a trip.

Damn...and a pre-1965 Frigidaire too! Not to worry...there will always be one that you will end up rescuing from the Krusher!

I HATE it when ..............

I hate it when they say ............

"ghheeez, I just got rid of all that a few months ago, or you should have been here last week, or I use to have tons of those oldies but I trashed them last fall."

........... I mean, WHATS THE POINT in telling me or anyone what you don't have or already had, it accomplishes NOTHING but making me or anyone who loves this stuff feel bad PERIOD. You either have it or don't. Please don't go and tell me what you already did with machines from the past. But do tell me what you find in the future (smiling).

I HATE it when .................

I HATE it when some of these app. guys say ..........

"gheez, you should have been here a week ago, or I had tons of those oldies last fall but trashed them, etc."

Telling me or anyone who loves or is in search of these oldies that they "missed out" is POINTLESS and accomplishes NOTHING !!, I mean, all it does is make one feel bad. So you (the app. guy) either has what I am/your looking for or not PERIOD. But yes, (we say to the app.guys/recyclers) do tell us what you find in the future, please !! (smiling)

Now you know what real membership here feels like! It's even worse when it's a place that you frequent, and STILL they don't put them aside for you...

put them aside

Like I said in another thread. It takes the recycler/dealer time and space to do these things. Offer them money
