Nice matching set, gas dryer, reasonably priced. If you want them, let me know ASAP, they will be scraped out otherwise.

I wonder how much it would cost to have them packaged and shipped. I sure would take em if its not too high for shipping

Someone please save these! Please don't let them be "scraped!" I have the same question about shipping, though I'm all the way out West on the Coast...

Shipping is a killer. But the machines are cheap. $250 for the pair. So, even with shipping, it may be feasable.

OK I gotta ask this one question...do they work??

If you don't sell them for $250, you'll scrap 'em?

I have a set already, and a full shop, these are another guy's machines, and he's not stupid, he knows what they are and yes, he'll scrap them if I don't shell out enough money. I dry tested them, the washer spins with no bearing noise, the dryer spins, has a slight bearing noise, but does not ignite. If someone wants them, I'll check them out throughly and give an exact evaluation, I'm a repair man so any needed repairs I can do, or you can do if you are inclined. But I don't pawn off junk, just not how I do business. These machines need a good home and hopefully that will happen : )

Kind of ridiculous...

To say you'll scrap the set if you don't get $250. I guess I try and make sure the appliances that come into my possession find good homes, more than view them as "valuable assets". Seriously, to 99.99% of the world it's an OLD washer and dryer.

I can't pay this scrapper $150 for machines that sit in my shop. I already am packed with sweet appliances. I see these machines, negotiate the guy down as far as I can, and offer them to people on this site. I take $100 for time, transport, and evaluation of condition. So here are these sweet 1-18's for $250. This is my business. This is how I feed my family. Michigan has the worst economy in the nation. I am just trying to pay my bills. $150 is a lot of money to me. I can't buy every fanatastic machine I come across. I fail to see anything ridiculous about what I do. I offer my "finds" to the site at great prices. But I have neither the room nor the money to grab every machine. Most of the machines I have put up have ended up at the scrap yard. There is nothing I can do about that. Either someone wants the machine or they don't. I love vintage appliances. And maybe when I am not working 70 hours a week trying to get by, I'll have time to set up MY dream laundry room .

I meant that the seller was ridiculous, not you. :-)

We certainly understand; if my DW's job were not so iffy right now I would be contacting you to make the sale. SC budget woes are so bad I know of at least one other person in a state supported agency that is talking now of 15 day furloughs for the 2009 - 2010 budget year (and we still have 6 months in THIS year!?! Sheesh)...
Even with shipping it would be well worth it - imho. With shipping costs that washer still beats anything made today in terms of craftsmanship. Our 7 year FL is not long for this world which we probably paid the same dollar amount for!!! When times improve we will be looking to acquire a classic like this.
thanks for sharing and may you find a buyer (closer to you) to help you put food on your family's table
Peaceful Holidays,
Robert

Thanks, I didn't mean to get pissy, I do get frustrated when I see these machines go to the crusher, but most peole have not oprned their eyes to the scam that is modern appliances. The pistom driven washer is the best top loader even made, an opinion shared by many who know a lot more than me. I'm trying to get this guy to do consignment, so we'll see. I got my avocado set for FREE. I was in someones basement and saw them in the corner, and they told me to get rid of those "ugly, old, pieces of junk!" Is it just me, or are the avocados better? Had a coppertone machine take a crap on me, made at different plants?

Also, since shipping is what kills a ot of trades or sales, can we make some sort of travel board where members can help each other out. Most of us make trips anyway for the holidays etc. why not work together to move machines?

shipping does, I would buy the set for that price in a HEARTBEAT, they are the best machines made and dont deserve the crusher. Is there a way all the members could get together to work out shipping. This set needs to be saved.

I love visits, have a real cool shop, built 1893. But the winters really suck here.
