Yep, I admit it looks bad, but it is really progress on the GE combo! After I read that thread last week about the Philco Duomatic, I thought it might be wise to replace ALL the belts, hoses, and washers on the GE. The timing was perfect since I haven't completed the rewiring yet. It took me a while but with hubby's help, I figured out that the washer tub was sitting on legs bolted to the base of the washer. Once we got those removed, it lifted right off - a very interesting design... I tested all the solenoids - they are all good. YAY! This week's project is belt and hose remplacement... It's taken me a while, but I am now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

It's a '56 (it was actually 'born' June 5th, 1956 - same day as me but a few years earlier!) but it does have the window in the door. I am by no means an expert on the GE machines, but it looks like the first models in 1955 had no windows (FilterFlo has one, I think). I remember when I first started hunting for parts getting confused about the number of belts but I also learned that the cast-iron transmission is darn near indestructible! I'm hoping to go belt-shopping tomorrow - I just love to see the look on the face of my local parts person's face when I tell him what I am looking for...
