"autowasherfreak" I have NO idea what the model numbers are, but I believe those are TOL Frigidaires of 1966. Maybe "Unimatic1140" or another Frigidaire expert will give you the exact model numbers of these machines. But these are some beautiful machines, aren't they??? --Charles-- |

Those are WCI-66's and spectacular machines. These are, I believe Rollermatics and you can see the liquid detergent and fabric softener dispenser in the control panel of the washer and the sprinkler well filler in the panel of the dryer. These are the first Frigidaires I ever noticed and wanted. Still do. Thank you for posting this picture. This was from an "Electric Living" ad, yes? I have a bad smaller copy of it and I was hoping to find the big version. The utility and steel companies did many neat ads in the sixties featuring some of the appliances we know and love. Here's one with my coveted 1961 GE V-12 TOL Filter-Flo's |

In 66 Frigidaire changed the nomenclature for the model numbers - the machine pictured would be a WCIK. The father's hand is in the way so I can't tell if they are a 65 or a 66 set. The dispenser door had the writing moved around between the two years. Let's hope that the red substance is not oil based paint! ;-) Ben |

'K' is what tells us that it is a 1966 machine. The dispensers would have been a feature of the CI. The crazy machines are the WCIAK - a CI machine - BUT the options section has a rotary knob instead of the push-buttons and lack of chrome strips down the front of the machine; but with a dispenser IIRC. Things started to get crazy in the 60's! I don't have my lettering 100 percent, but I think 'L' is 1967. Ben |

Rick, could you briefly sum up how you painted the machines? I was under the impression that porcelain really couldn't be painted... |

Hey Jed, I have a good friend that does the metal/paint work for me. He is the painter at the Porche dealer, and is a perfectionist. I gut the cabinets, then if he wants the cabinet blasted first, I have them blasted. These Frigidaires were in very poor condition. I almost scrapped them out for parts. The washer had leaked for years and had even rusted a couple holes in the lower cabinet area.It was also dented. At any rate, the porcelain was blasted so that the eching primer, finishing primer, and paint would adhere to the metal. You are correct, paint will not stick to porcelain. Here is what the cabinets looked like after the basic metal prep. The cabinets sat this way all spring and summer, because my friend was busy with his free time restoring his 1966 Oldsmobile 88 convertible. Finally he got the cabinets finished just before the really cold weather sat in. |

Rusted bottom brace. Anytime the washer was moved, it would leave a trail of rust from the lower cabinet and bottom brace. The replacement brace is from a 1961 model. I was able to make some modifications to it and use it on the 66 Custom Imperial washer. The pump leaked for years, and the outer tub had one rust hole in it as large as a dime. These both must have leaked for decades. |
