This new kid in the candy store is overdosing!!!

Since I started my "collection" just over a month ago I have been going crazy looking for washers to buy and I want to buy almost everyone I see. While I HAVE been trying to control myself, from the looks of my garage, I have not been doing too good of a job at it. I must also say, that if I was not ALREADY "divorced", I certainly would be now because of this!!! LOL

So, this leads us to my latest acquisition…. as if bringing home TWO washers AND a dryer last Saturday was not enough… NOW I have yet ANOTHER Kenmore belt drive I just brought home three hours ago!!!

This washer is a 1983 model (in almond!) but according to Kenmoreguy64 was built in late March 1986. Below are photos of it… the interior shot shows the single-action / dual-action agitator. Yes I said that correctly. Single action because someone has locked the auger together with rest of the agitator and it no longer moves separately.

Oh, I cannot forget my visiting guests......

I really have a full house as these washers are also here visiting for a while, courtesy of Rich (Golittlesport).

They are the 1969 or 70 Skinny-mini and a tabletop Whirlpool electric wringer washer (with a hand powered wringer actually - any guess at the year?? Late 1940's?)

Just for the record, YES I DID PUSH KEVIN TO GET THAT SECOND BELT DRIVE. I need company in la-la land!

Actually, I am partial to machines like his new acquisition because they were the last sparkle of light in the belt-drive realm at Sears. All of the belt-drives on the Sears floor on 7/4/86 were 1983 models, as these were the last issued for stores, and this model was the entry level belt-drive machine. The others below this were direct drive.

I bought the same model that July 4th for my student condo in college, and looking back, it was one of the best, most enjoyable purchases I have made. To be able to say I bought one of the last belt-drives is kinda neat. It was delivered in August, and belt-drives were gone in Charlotte by mid-October. The last two were the Lady K and the entry 70. Two ends of the spectrum.

I have known for a long time that my machine had a successor model (mine is a 82370120 and Kevin's is an 82370130 essentially) and I wondered what the difference was. It appears to be the white basket, which carries a different part number from the speckled one and was probably substituted in production during a shortage of speckled tubs.

Thank Kevin for rescuing a great piece of more recent history.

It's odd that the Lady K I got a couple weeks ago has a stuck auger too. I'll be investigating that this weekend.

Enjoy the machine Kevin, I'll try not to encourage anymore garage clutter!

Gordon

Check Craig's List!

revvinkevin's profile picture
Bobby, With the exception of the Frigidaire FL set (bought them 12 years ago) and the WCI & Kenmore front loaders, I have found ALL the other machines on Craig's List (which is evil I tell you, EVIL!!!). LOL

Honestly I didn't think I'd find any belt-drive machines until I found the white (1980) a few weeks ago. Then after I'd already paid for it, ANOTHER (nicer) set came up (but I missed them). Then yesterday I found this almond one and bought it today!

You're Among Similar Company

...And here I am in an efficiency apartment, but craving all the more for those belt-drive KM/WP/similar brands in audio files. In fact, I just combined my Whirlpool and Sears Kenmore folders, as these sound the same. So now I can let her rip through over 90 consecutive files. Yet, the more you talk about belt drives, the more I wish to collect demos. Gotta have hours and hours of audios to soothe my soul.--Laundry Shark

And.... oh by the way....

Even though this recent addition to my collection was manufactured in March of 1986, it IS still a belt drive and apparently, was built very near the end of belt drive production.

Long live the Belt Drives!

Thats a nice collection. I like the sets of F/L's.

I would like to find one of the early extra-large tub BD's.
Whirly or 'Kenmo, makes no difference to me. Would be kool to find one of the 'Kenmo versions with the extra-large straight-vane in it.

What did you discover about the table top Whirlpool wringer washer? When were they manufactured?

Nice machines

Kevin,

you are not the only one who has 'lost his mind'...

I just bought, this week, my tenth twin tub washing machine ! And, btw, I live in a four pieces appartment, not one of those big houses with plenty of space !!

I suppose it is like a 'sickness', if I can say that. There seem to be no cure, once you got stung by the vintage appliance crisis ... ...

In all, I've owned 13 washers since 2012 (four sold). Plus, vintage vacuums and blenders. Going nuts ? Maybe.

Congrats for your latest addition and for such a beautiful collection !

Thank you UncleJohn, but..........

This thread is from 9.5 YEARS ago.... and the majority of the machines in the photo are no longer here.  Thank you for your comments tho.... laughing   Ten twin tubs?  Wow, your collection is growing!   I only have 2, a Maytag & an 'Oovah.

Regarding the table top WP wringer washer.... not sure, the 1940's??
