Hi chaps,

Posted on here a few weeks ago asking for advice on which twin tub to get, got lots of helpful replies. Have since picked up my new hoovermatic de lux t5090 and its great - such good fun and gets clothes much cleaner than the automatic. Will post some pics soon...

Was having a poke around the workings of the machine and the pump belt and spin belt both seem a bit slack to me - how tight should they be? Seems to work fine but sometimes seems a bit slower to spin up fully on a heavy load.

Thanks
Pete

PS I managed to get a print from hoover of the t5090 user manual. Mike, I seem to remember you saying you hadn't seen one of these - if you or anyone else wants a copy i can scan and email to you...

Hello Pete

As long as they are slipping i would not worry, to spin a load of wet washing puts a lot of strain on the drive system, so the belt will soak up some of the load as it gathers speed.....thus taking somew of the strain off the motor

On the other hand if you cant sleep for worrying......splash out on a new set :-)

It good to hear you are enjoying your machine aswell, they are great to watch and use, and as you say they wash very well

Here is a link to my very old 3334 spinning a full load for comparison, if yours picks up better than mine then i would say you have nothing to worry about.

Gary

Hi Pete, If its pumping out the water quickly from the start and coming up to full speed within 30secs with a full load I would say the belts are fine!!!

better with slight play than very tight as Gary says it will put undue starain on the motor... the T5090 wash belt is designed to work just by weight of the motor hanging on it...not liek the previous machines that where bolted in place
