Dial-an-Answer

Looks awfully Whirlpool to me.

My guess: BOL machine. '79 - '83.

Let's see if I'm right. :-)

I was going to say 1977-ish also! The transparent dials were gone not much later in favor of the more traditional (by that time) cycles printed on the console with a timer pointer, etc.

It's earlier than that. 1970 or so. The knits setting is in the midst of the Perm Press cycle where the normal agitation shifts to gentle speed at the 6 minute mark. Neighbors of our lake house had this similar model washer and the house was built in like 1970 or 1971 at the latest.

And I might add, whirlpool pretty much did away with this speed shift on the PP cycle probably by 1974 or so at the latest. Higher end models during this time had a separate knits cycle from gentle cycle. The knits offer wash time up to 8 minutes and had one cool-down phase. Gentle wash was maxxed out at 6 minutes. I do believe if there was a separate Knits cycle, the PP cycle didn't shift to gentle agitation at 6 minutes. Also, the PP cycle had 2 cooldown periods just in case hot water wash was used.

Looks the same as the one on our 1972-73 Whirlpool.

That dial looks to me like the LDA series, 1975-1976. IIRC, that's when the design changed to those unmarked segments for rinse and final spin.

Our LDA-7800 had separate Knits and Gentle, but still did the low-speed shift on Perm Press. A replacement timer some years later had one-stage cool down on PP instead of two-stage, with an EXTRA LONG drain after wash to take up the space, and still with a one-stage cool down on Knits.

What is also telling is that it says "Push Stop" below the dial. Up until about 1974/5 Whirlpools and Kenmores started when you pushed the knob in, and stopped when you pulled the knob out. From the look of the knob, and the fact that it pull-starts, and push-stops, I would say this is a Whirlpool from 1974 to 1979.

Have a good one,
James

My mom's 1968 Imperial 90 had the identical knob- chrome lated metal and heavy.
